I do think Ultron's ultimate fate was intentionally ambiguous and I have my theories.

Joss Whedon wanted to put Spider-Man and Captain Marvel in the movie

Spider-Man would have been awesome.

When he first emerged, Vision mentioned he had no desire to kill Ultron. I think he contained him. That ruined husk honestly posed no threat to Vision, so why destroy him if he doesn't have to? Maybe trap him in a decapitated Ultron head, like in the comics, as he tries to teach him to appreciate humanity. And so I think he'll be Vision's ace-in-the-hole in the future to derail Thanos' machinations since he's incredibly powerful A.I.

It's probably just wishful thinking. Because I was surprised by how much I liked Ultron's personality. I thought he'd just be menacing, all-humans-must-die, beep-boop, robot. Like a Michael Bay Megatron waste of CGI. But his scenes with Ulysses Klaw and Stark were great. And at the end especially, trapped in that ruined shell, I was definitely pitying him.

It'd be a shame to be rid of him forever. Although I also realize I really want Loki to serve the same role when Thanos rolls around. So my theories would call for redundant plot twists. I kinda want Ultron back though more than Loki. Something I'd never thought I'd want. I hated the idea of Ultron being the follow-up to Loki in the first place when first announced. Needless to say, I was completely wrong.

Yeah, when Vision encountered that last broken shell of Ultron, I thought: "Hmm, Ultron's definitely not dead... The camera panned away just as Vision zapped him."

I like the idea of saving a piece of Ultron as a haxx plot-device to be used in the future. The only potential problem there is that Ultron controls what he corrupts. So unless he's 100% good(don't see that happening), unleashing him has the potential to turn a shitty situation into an even shittier situation. /shrug

[edit]
I also like that AoU finally depicted all of the infinity stones in their gem-like states, as two more gems were shown to exist within the Tesseract and Aether, respectively.

if not Ultron, who did you want?

^ Can't even say. Whatever objection I had has been completely replaced by wanting more Ultron.

Yeah, I was very skeptical of Spader's voice/portrayal of Ultron at first... Especially after that first trailer was leaked.

Gotta say, though: Spader's characterization turned out to be perfect for the role. I'd have to say that Ultron is now my favorite villain from the MCU to date. 👆

I think my prediction from years back will come to pass...

That Loki will replace Mephisto's part at Thanos's side in the infinity gauntlet arc.
Loyal servant/adviser at his side but secretly scheming to take the gauntlet for himself.
What im curious about is if they will use Nebula the same way as in the comics.

>Spoiler Warning<

Not sure why you would be in the thread if you haven't seen the movie but whatever.

Do you think the death of QS and the fact Fox isn't using Wanda was the eventual deal that Disney & Fox came to? It seems like way too much of a coincidence to not be true, but this is pure speculation on my part.

Thoughts?

Ultron was very likeable as a villain. I agree.

Good theory , but I think QS will be back. I think i read a while back A.T Johnson signed for multiple movies. Maybe they bring him back with that tech that patched up hawkeye. If not then another way via infinity stones shenanigans.

I'm more curious if Thanos will also be shown conquering the abstracts, like he did in the comics. If so, Marvel had better start introducing them in the films ASAP.

Yeah , him curbstomping the abstracts has to be in there somewhere in some form.
Another thing that im curious about is , who will take Silver Surfers place? I know Adam Warlock is coming so who will warlocks companion be? Maybe Captain Marvel?

I doubt they are bringing in Warlock. They seemed to have combined him with Vision. His cocoon was likely just an Easter egg.

It will most likely be Mar-Vell. He is, after all, Thanos' OG archrival in the comics.

he could be a "ghost" haunting Wanda or even just a memory. I guess the gauntlet could do something to bring him back.

^ Thanos uses the Soul Gem and tempts Wanda with his resurrection to betray the Avengers for the final gem. Calling it.

YouTube video

BTW, that combined with Vision's scene definitely made the movie for me. Genius.

Yeah, those parts were epic. 👆

It's easier to see Mjolnir move with you watch this gif in a loop, though:

Thor's reaction is priceless, lol.

Is there an official list of what artifact is which gem

Vision has the Mind Gem
Collector has the Aether/Reality Gem
Xandarians have the Orb/power Gem
Loki/Asgard has the Teseract/Space Gem

Is this the general consensus so only Time & Soul are left?

So, it's looking like Avengers will get around 450-500 domestic total. Monday had a 75% drop, which is bad for this type of movie. I guess word of mouth was just OK and Whedon erased his Twitter account, because of the backlash. 😂

What did you say to him, Whitewitchking?

That or the novelty wore off. 🙁
