You might have been thinking of the comic where Cap got in-between KT and Iron-man while they were fighting and KThor ended up denting Cap's shield and then later repairing it.

Besides, writer statements can't be used to contradict panel feats. They can be used to back them up, sure, but it doesn't work the other way around.
