Cosplay

Or you go to your local blacksmith cough up a few thousand dollars and have him forge you an actual armor.

Someone make me a Guts outfit:

I suspect that the outfit would weigh 60-70 lbs and be very uncomfortable.

Guts was the first character I wanted to cosplay and then didn't do...

If I ever cosplay I'm going to cosplay like a normal looking guy from a really creepy Hentai.

You'd definitely pull that off.

I present to you Shindou Nikita from Akiba Girls:

When did you get into cosplay?

A year ago when my college had a mini anime convention. I didn't dress up for that one. Halloween was the first time I really "cosplayed" although I guess you could just call that dressing up for Halloween, but I went as babydoll from Suckerpunch.

Dadudemon - you could use foam board to make the armor as well. Just spray paint it shades of grey/silver.

My gal pal cosplaying:

10 points to Gryffindor to the first person to guess who she is.

Make it out of cloth dipped in white glue. You can then sand the parts and paint them.

Thanks for the tips! I would prefer real armor, though. Astner's idea is what I had in mind. I don't have the disposable (yet, bitches...yet....I'm working on it) income to hire a smith to do the work, though.

It's Dante.

Also, Guts armor, fair enough, his sword probably weighs something like 50 kilos though.

That's cool. My girlfriend and I went to a couple anime conventions. She and her sister and cousin cosplayed, but I didn't. Cause I'm very, very shy.

Do you have pics of your Babydoll cosplay?

Yup.

I bet. I estimated 120 kilos.

But, I could use his pre-"Griffith ****s every body over" sword.

High quality armor itself isn't cost-prohibitive (though it's also not cheap), but high quality armor of a specific character or style would be much harder to find. It's much easier to work around, say, more general medieval armor than it is to build a costume for a very unique style, game, or character. I'm building a pretty complete costume for a medieval archer/hunter/ranger archetype, but it's a lot of "generic" leather armor, not anything that's so specific that I'd need to commission someone to make a unique piece for me.

Still heavy though.

Do you have a mass estimate for that sword?

I don't know, 20 kilos perhaps.

Also, amazing:

I've never gone before, but it does seem cool

That guy is close:

My guess is that it would be too expensive or difficult, without quite a bit of money, to make the shoulder plates segmented and linked...because he's not using metal.

Also neither of them poked their eye out.
