When did you get into cosplay?
A year ago when my college had a mini anime convention. I didn't dress up for that one. Halloween was the first time I really "cosplayed" although I guess you could just call that dressing up for Halloween, but I went as babydoll from Suckerpunch.
Dadudemon - you could use foam board to make the armor as well. Just spray paint it shades of grey/silver.
10 points to Gryffindor to the first person to guess who she is.

Make it out of cloth dipped in white glue. You can then sand the parts and paint them.

Thanks for the tips! I would prefer real armor, though. Astner's idea is what I had in mind. I don't have the disposable (yet, bitches...yet....I'm working on it) income to hire a smith to do the work, though.
It's Dante.
Also, Guts armor, fair enough, his sword probably weighs something like 50 kilos though.

That's cool. My girlfriend and I went to a couple anime conventions. She and her sister and cousin cosplayed, but I didn't. Cause I'm very, very shy.
Do you have pics of your Babydoll cosplay?
High quality armor itself isn't cost-prohibitive (though it's also not cheap), but high quality armor of a specific character or style would be much harder to find. It's much easier to work around, say, more general medieval armor than it is to build a costume for a very unique style, game, or character. I'm building a pretty complete costume for a medieval archer/hunter/ranger archetype, but it's a lot of "generic" leather armor, not anything that's so specific that I'd need to commission someone to make a unique piece for me.
