He's had run ins with both GOTG and Avengers. The GOTG movie is current mainstream timeline. Original GOTG are from a future timeline and they've never fought Thanos directly. The original time exist in the year 3000.

The recent Star Wars movies suffered from this same problem. The action scenes were lifeless and lacking any suspense. Plus, whenever the main characters are put in danger, some sort of magic bails them out

Who cares. It's just a title. Plus it goes along with the Awesome Mix Volumes and comic books in general. I'm surprised it hasn't been done already to be honest. I think a title like Guardians of the Galaxy: Dark Paternal Quest, lol, would sound stupidly pretentious and just doesn't fit with the style of the series.
