I think I DID give the doctor prep - he already knows everything there is to know about Thor and Asgard, because I can only think of ONE instance where The Doctor didn't know "what it was," and that was because it wasn't really an alien technology [the episode where the Doctor meets "the Devil" in the space station that's orbiting around the black hole. I believe it's called "The Impossible Planet."
I also think Thor would be moved into action by the image of Jane, and don't think he would through his hammer at the love of his life [or so he thinks.] According to "The Parting of Ways" his holograms are 100 percent life-like.
Once he's in the TARDIS - well, we know that the Doctor is the TARDIS and vice versa, so I'm pretty sure the TARDIS would keep Thor from doing any damage. From there, a quick trip to Asgard, a quick talk with Odin - we have seen that whoever doesn't uphold the Shadow Proclamation will be either neutralized [not killed, but rendered harmless], or in extreme cases, actually killed, and thus Thor is back in Asgard.
Plus, if Thor ends up killing the Doctor, there are going to be millions of different planets angry at Thor/Asgard and their citizens will soon take revenge on Thor/Asgard. Which I'm pretty sure Odin wouldn't like.
