Batman: Arkham Knight

City>Asylum>Knight>Origins.

Knight had a riveting and compelling story up to the third act, but by then it became stagnant and grossly repetitive. The Arkham Knight was a disappointment, and Scarecrow's final fate was just an utter letdown. On top of the mind numbing drone fights and the difficulty of the Batmobile, this final entry in the Arkham series didn't live up to the hype. On top of all that, I think it sucks that you have to find every single villain, including the Riddler and all of his stupid challenges/trophies, to get the 100% true ending.

People genuinely found the batmobile hard to drive?

I did at first, but I got used to it.

Origins was a great game.No idea why it gets the hate.(people only hate it cause its not a Rocksteady game imo)
The multiplayer was meh though.
Some of the elements like the boss fight were much better then in AK.
The dlc was pretty damn good unlike the shitty 5 minutes ones in this one.

Also dont forget not being able to play other characters in challenge maps.

👆

And I don't get why some ***** about having to lock everyone up (including the Riddler) to get the true Knightfall Protocol ending to this game... As others have said, just youtube the ending if you don't have the conviction to do it all. I would've still eventually nabbed the Riddler and co anyway, because completionism.

Same for me. once I got the hang of it, I was golden.

Oh, same here. I got used to it before long. It's just that the novelty of being able to use the batmobile wore off by the time you got close to finishing the game, with how shoehorned it was in most of the parts/segments.

The only time I felt like it was really forced was the cobra tank and Deathstroke fight. Honestly, I can't help but feel like people overstate how shoehorned it is.

Just imo.

Even still, there definitely could've been more of a balance between how much the story (and most wanted missions) requires you to use the batmobile, and how much it requires you to be on foot for combat & predator. The game was sorely lacking in the latter compared to its predecessors, which is not good IMO.

They wanted the Batmobile to be a prominent part of Batman's arsenal though.

Also I read somewhere (here I think?) that there aren't any challenge maps? That's almost unbelievable.

NB: I haven't played Arkham Knight.

EDIT: Is the season pass actually $40? 😐

I get that, but they could've done it in a way that didn't make the batmobile feel like it was overstaying its welcome. Having to fight Jobberstroke or Deathjoke in it (whose "boss fight" was no different than the Cloudburst tank) was just insult to injury.

Yep.. The main downside of it is you don't have a way of playing as Robin, Nightwing, Azrael, Harley, and company outside the few minutes the game allows you to be them... But the AR challenges do offer more variety in gameplay than the challenge maps ever did, to their credit.

Old news now, but yep... Seems any game under WB's wing now is just pushing to see how much they can get away with far as a season pass price. I thought MKX's season pass being $30 was pushing it at first, but this game takes it to another level. May as well be paying for two games. lol

It's funny that Gamespot was criticized regarding but it's true, there is too much batmobile.

Finished it. Did most sidequests but gave up when Full Knightfall ending required all Riddler trophies (which is bullshit)

Overall, very fun game. I enjoyed it immensely but it's definitely the third best in the series.

What I liked:

1. I thought the story was pretty neat. I did keep me interested.
2. Combat was sublime
3. I love the atmosphere in the city
4. I enjoyed how each tower, checkpoint, bomb were different each time you activated them. It would been easy just to copy/paste but they didn't. I especially liked the checkpoint where it's one guy talking to himself about how he can hold one down by himself. Reminding me of Boba Fett from Robot Chicken.
5. I enjoyed the sewer fight. I thought it was pretty interesting.
6. I enjoyed the cobra tank sequences. They had a really cool vibe to them and I did get a bit freaked on when I was sneaking them.
7. They nailed the batmobile awesomess when leaving and entering the thing. That was so ****ing cool.

Dont like:
1. Kind of lame final section. I felt like I was constantly being told to go somewhere and then come back, and then go somewhere and here is 60 tanks to shoot. All is fine if I didn't spend at least 5 hours shooting tanks for sidequests.
2. The least interesting city in the games. There didn't seem to be any really cool areas to explore or that they were entirely to small. Some areas in City are massive compared to Knight. I just thought it could been much better.
3. Way too much reliance on the Batmobile, especially tank battles. Controlling in tank mode was pretty cool (basically a glorified FPS game) but driving the thing was frustrating. I got used to it but it still wasn't perfect.
4. Sidequests were a bit lame. It was either a take on combat, or something to do with the Batmobile. Unlike AC, which had interesting sidequest that seemed to be worthy of an expansion pack (but more flushed out), there wasn't anything to interesting (aside from the Perfect Crime).
5.Riddler trophies seemed to be a bit lacking from previous games. I didn't really have much interesting in them because they don't look that good.

Overall, it was a fun game (well made aside from freezing every so often) but it's the third best in the series. Too much Batmobile and a bit too open world for my tastes.

They will probably make a sequel but the game has to be take on the Dark Knight Returns. It would be pretty sweet if they somehow added Superman in the mix....it has too be. What could they do other than that....Scarecrow has been used up. Two Face and Penguin are not "big" enough to warrant a major crisis. No way they can have Joker again.

Eh, I enjoyed the side quests. The ones that weren't repetition city with the militia, anyway. The Perfect Crime one you mentioned with Pyg was definitely one of the top ones for me, but I also liked the ones with Azrael (how it ended with him was an... interesting twist), Man Bat, and such. The one with Thomas Elliot (a.k.a. Hush or identity thief) ended kinda anticlimactically though, I felt. With how his side quest ended with a cliffhanger in Arkham City, I would've expected something a little more to come from him in this game...

Agree with you on all your other points though, basically.

It was mentioned in the beginning of this thread that this would be RockSteady's last game, but you can expect some other studio to probably milk the Arkham cow, yeah. (WB Montreal or someone)

I wouldn't mind if there was an Arkham take on Batman Beyond, but Dark Knight Returns could work also... Would kinda make sense with Superman too I guess, given all the easter egg mentions he was given in this game.

I only liked Pyg, Riddler and Man Bat.

The others were just takes on things you do throughout the game. For instance, the APC and Firefly are the same mission just with fire.

Considering they made a huge effort to promote that all the villains were released from Arkham City, I don't understand why they didn't try to add some of them.

The Gamestop review had more wrong with it than complaining about the Batmobile, imo. shrug

No to DKR though. No thanks. Nope.

Not really. I just re-read it and all it saying is basically what everybody else is saying in this forum.

Too much Batmobile.
Medicore last half (with reliance on tank battles, and waves of fights)
Story reveals are weak.

Eh, yeah. That's true.

Yeah... The evidence room of the GCPD tells how they had to let a number of them go after City too even, so would've thought you'd see more of 'em. The one for Ra's al Ghul mentions that they didn't find the body after Cash was talking about the sword, interestingly, so I guess he did survive, somehow.

Not sure how you got that impression, but they clearly need a break from Batman after this. Maybe do some of the things they were rumored to do after City, or do some game or series for another DC superhero, etc. Batman's not the only thing their talent could do justice for.

As for reviews, I forget whether it was by Gamespot or something else, but I remember someone here mentioning a review saying that the Batmobile added nothing to the table, gameplay, or something along the lines of that... That was obviously false.

At least two of those are wrong imo, so I think there's nothing wrong with thinking the Gamespot review was bad.

Especially with them whining about the whole "Batman not killing" thing.

I do think the batmobile is polarising, though. People seem to either love it or hate it.

I don't remember where I read it, just that I did.

If they take a break, that's fine. I just don't see it being permanent.

But it's true. The entire game beats you in the head that you don't kill anybody. I don't know how many times it comes up yet I'm pretty I killed about 200 people.

1. Running people over.
2. Hitting them with the "riot" gun.
3. All the environment takedowns....yes, being electrocuted by an exposed wire will kill you. And yes, having your face throw into a light will kill you.

It's a valid point. You don't make a game where it repeatedly tells you that you don't kill yet it repeatedly allows you kill people.

Watch the Angry Joe review of this. All those things brought up in the Gamestop review were brought up in his review. During the game, it might not bother you but the score was justified. His points were valid.

And the last quarter of the game was medicore. The reveal was ****ing brutal.

the whole "No killing rule" wasn't broken in my eyes. I mean yeah a lot of that stuff would have killed someone in real life but in the game they were "Unconscious". I mean in real life well over half the things in the game couldn't have happened. So maybe in that world the human body can just withstand more damage....

Except that it's a well established part of the Batman mythos that you're supposed to take with a grain of salt. Complaining about it kind of defeats the purpose of suspension of disbelief. It's not meant to reflect the real world any more than any other aspect of Batman is.

I watched the Angry Joe review, and I disagreed with him too.

The Arkham Knight reveal wasn't "brutal" by any means, imo. Unsurprising, sure, but it wasn't the only story reveal in the game. The Barbara Gordon one was brilliantly done, imo, and of course there's you-know-who that they kept under wraps right up until people played the game.

I think that calling the last quarter of the game mediocre is exaggeration in a huge way.
