ASMR

Because of this, More than anything, I just want a fancy day at the spa where someone wraps me in warm towels and massages my hands, feet, face, whatever while using exotic lotions and oils. Some of the "detox" aspects of such things are pure hippie nonsense, but that's not what I'd go for.

Thank you for sharing, Digi. I will view the videos after this episode of Battlestar Galactica.

It may seem weird but I can get this feeling or "state" but just thinking about stuff but it only works sometimes and I have not figured out the variables to recreate it consistently. One of my friends, who is Buddhist, said that this state can be obtained with meditation.

Bonus: I get this feeling, sometimes, when watching this Norwegian dude blacksmithing (smithing). His voice is calm, he's highly intelligent, and his hands are sure. He creates real swords, pommels, knives, etc. But the combination of all those things makes his videos bring on the tingles.

No problem. I was excited to share it!

I'm sure some form of focus can recreate it (meditation being one option). After all, a couple days ago, I wouldn't have thought a video could do it. For example, getting a head massage...absolutely! Watching a POV video of a head massage...I wouldn't have guessed it! It's all about recreating a mental state. So it's got to be possible with various meditative techniques.

The blacksmith story is amusingly specific, but I know exactly what you're talking about. Craftsmen working elicits the same response in me. It could be as obvious as a massage or as surprising as a car mechanic. I've experienced both, and many others besides, including musicians, hair stylists, leatherworkers, tailors, etc.

Interestingly enough, the whispering causes tingling when I first hear it, but ultimately I tune it out after awhile by doing other things, because I am like a ferret on jolt cola.

I've seen some Youtube comments that are surprised a particular video works for them multiple times. Which means they've experienced diminishing returns with other videos. So yeah, this probably happens with some of it.

Indeed. That explains the huge variety in her videos alone.

Hasn't happened to me yet, though I haven't watched many. But 1-2 that I enjoyed were just as good the 2nd time around. I'm working from home this week because I'm sick as balls, so this has been a great way to pass some time since I'm low on energy.

The other explanation for variety probably just has to do with triggers. What works brilliantly for one is worthless for another.

Very true. A large majority of the videos do nothing for me. Whispering seems to be the big trigger, if any exists.

Sorry you're sick. Everyone around me has the uber flu these past few weeks but I'm perfectly healthy.

Typhoid Mary ftw.

I get that tingly feeling when I flick the base of my nutsack just as blast both barrells of my porridge gun into my belly hair. Sometimes it's too much like hard work and I fall asleep in the middle of loading it though.

I'm gonna hazard a guess that's not what this is about? I admit I skipped over the details. I promise I'll go back and post a more appropriate response once I've found a sock to wipe myself with.

Actually. It's dark and that seems too much like hard work as well.

You bet your sweet ass I do.

I'll start you where I started: I was researching wootz steal (I have no idea why the **** I was researching it) and ran across this video. Then it spiraled into me watching all of his craft-work videos.

This is actually pretty good, he has a good voice for this, and there is something oddly soothing about the ring of metal on metal (which reminds me of the douchebag from the first story in The King in Yellow, lol).

Thanks.

This was just ****ing awesome, ASMR or not....

^ I liked how he said "ingot."

My wife does not experience ASMR. It makes me kind of sad. She also said she doesn't get goosebumps from music, ever. Neither does Bardock.

My wife is Bardock's twin, I guess.

She's 6'6" and 400 pounds?

They are not monozygotic.

Funny I was just recently thinking about creating a similar thread. Came across some ASMR videos (while looking for some softcore porn obviously). I've heard them describe it as a tiny orgasm for brain or so etching like that. Can't say I ever experienced anything like that.

I wouldn't associate it with sexual terms like orgasm. The sensations are nothing alike, at least to me. And the fact that things like metalcrafting can elicit an ASMR response adequately shows that it's not a direct appeal to the erogenous zones of the brain and/or body. I suppose there could be some overlap in certain situations, but not as a rule.

Dudemon mentioned music, which is an interesting comparison, because I'm not sure I've experienced the same thing as a result of music, but the responses that music can create within me are at least nearby on the sensation spectrum.

I hope you explore a bit more though. You may find something that creates a response for you.

OMFGBOBROSS.

😐

I had watched him a ton anyway throughout my life, but never put my enjoyment together with ASMR until just now.

If you've never seen The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross, and you're at all into ASMR, do yourself a favor and find some of his videos.

Helllloooooo(:

Bob Ross is arguably the founder of ASMR.
