Wasn't that an early Superman whom he KO'd with the Astro Force, and therefore not as powerful as Current Superman (well, New Earth Superman prior to Flashpoint, anyway)?

true, however when orion fought an enraged, mind controlled superman. he stated that he was holding back, because he had the power to kill him. in their latest encounter, DONG, Metron stated they were both pretty even in the physical department.

to be fair, superman holds back as well. for the exception of being mind controlled. i still think hulk is stronger than either of them, but once you factor in orions mother box and astro force, he could handle hulk in battle. if he plays it smart.
Supermans always had trouble with Kalibak, yet Orion was near death, and in only a few panels still managed to beat him so badly the Black Racer claimed him.
He also one shotted him, and can be pretty beastly in hand to hand.
And of course, there's always the Astro Force..

Loebs Imperiex Saga is known for playing up Superman at the expense of other characters. Don't remember that example, but it sounds like a low end showing.
Or at least, it goes against their two other clashes where Superman struggles against him in an Armageddon 2001 tie in, and in Death of the New Gods where Superman believes he's in for a long, hard fight, and Kalibak actually hits him so hard, he nearly knocks him out.
