Yes, and Lucas was criticized big time for the prequels. So don't act like everything he touches in the Star Wars universe becomes magic. JJ will improve it IMO. Star Wars while very good has never been great IMO. It's two best films were close IMO but not quite there.
He does need it at times. Khan is faster than the guy who needs a cane to walk.
