Right but she actually did put it up since it states the lightning tore through it. It only states she merely "tried" putting it up in a similar way as if you'd attacked me and I "tried" to defend myself but was overpowered. My defense wouldn't necessarily be weaker than normal just because it was unsuccessful.
I do concede to the possibility that it was a hasty, lackluster shield, but theres no way to be definite. Regardless, the barrier was there and the novel does suggest Scourge and Meetra would be incinerated.

Vitiate is more powerful, but the Hero could be the better overall combatant and has a fighting style that's perfect to combat his with massive defensive and lightsaber capabilities enabling her to tank what he throws out and cut him down.

Not really. Nihilus is a unique case and his drain isn't exactly the same with what Sidious or Vitiate had. It was more powerful but Nihilus had no control over it. Trying to drain the Exile so blindly proves it. Also Kreia says that if Nihilus stays unfed long enough, he will eat himself and be destroyed completely.(Im not talking about his body which he already has consumed, I mean he will consume his actual existence/essence.)
