Sabretooth
I was dead. I got better.
I remember Singer saying something about it being tougher to play a part without using your eyes for expressing your emotions and apparently Singer thought Marsden was capable of expressing himself using the other parts of his face and body. I thought he did a good enough job, the part just wasn't written that well for matching the personality of the comic Cyclops we all are used to. Tyler Mane pretty much got jacked in the same way in my opinion. Most comic fans already knew how dangerous Sabretooth was from reading about him so Singer had to sell that same ferosity the the mainstream audience with only about ten minutes of screen time to work with, and most of it badly fighting Wolverine. Singer's answer? Make Sabretooth more beastial to convey that same sense of ferosity. Mane couldn't help the fact he had to growl and crap. Singer put him up to that. Personally, I loved Mane as Sabretooth. That may be because I'm a bit partial to that character, but I've seen many who disagree with me because he wasn't a clone of the character in the comics.
Most comic fans need to understand the people at Fox couldn't give a rat's ass about us. We will pay to watch the movie pretty much no matter what. The people they are trying to get to buy tickets are the same people who think comics are hokey and childish. That is why there are so many character changes. How stupid would it sound the the mainstream people that Mystique is Sabretooth's lover, Nightcrawler's mother and Rogue's adopted mother? Character changes were nesessary to keep the movie more realistic and watchable, and after seeing Brandon Routh in his Superman outfit, I'm pretty freakin' happy they threw out the yellow spandex and went with the black leather. I just hope they drop the whole Cytorrak thing and make him a mutant or else the mainstream will really hate him. I also hope they leave Angel out of the movie altogether. How many movies have you seen with winged people that didn't come off as corny? They couldn't even get it to look right in Dogma, which rocked out loud by the way.
The one character I just couldn't let slide however, was the timid Storm. I don't know if it was due to Berry's acting or the script, but in my opinion Storm should have had much more confidence and presence. That's why I suggested Dawson play her. Dawson's portrayal of Gail in Sin City was anthing but timid. It doesn't hurt that she would look great in a leather body suit either. Berry just plays better victims than aggressive women. Gothika? Great! Catwoman? WTF!?! You can say that last one was the script and pretty much everything else that sucked about that movie, but I didn't think she was all that impressive in Swordfish either.Maybe I should take it easy on Berry. Not everyone can be Hugh Jackman after all.
