Old X-men fan here. In regards to an earlier question, Rogue got her powers by absorbing them permanently from Carol Danvers AKA MS. Marvel at the urging of Mystique. It is why she broke with Mystique and left, as Mystique had used her in one of powerplays. Should be interesting to see if they play on the relationship with Nightcrawler. Mystique is on cold hearted female, and her ruthlessness is too far ignored in the first two movies.
The next one will obviously have Pheonix as the main storyline with Cyclops having a much larger role, the continued efforts by elements within the government to reign in mutants, which could be where the sentinels appear as the secondary, and a couple smaller subplots involving either Gambit and Rogue, Wolverine and Deathstrike, and as an oddball guess I think Senator Kelly may reappear, the real one. IF you'll remember, when Storm said he was dead, Magneto said, "Are you sure you saw what you think you saw?". Remember, Mystique can shape change into all sorts of forms, and faking his death in the mansion would make a nice plot twist for later.
One thing to keep in mind, is that neither the cartoons or the novels maintain continuity with the as set X'men history as plotted by the comics. Not even close.
Rogue did not get her stripe that way. She is shown by Marvel as a small child with it.
Storm can fly very well thank you.
Woverine was not manipulated into a metal infused killer by Stryker, but rather by the Enigmatic "Professor" as chronicled by the Barry Windsor Smith WeaponX saga, where it is slightly hinted at that an even higher power, perhaps Apocolypse was the main player. If you like Wolverine, you MUST find and read that one.
Sabertooth is far from the bumbling idiot shown in X1. He's a former mercenary, assassin, government agent, who is an almost unstoppable tracker with an amazingly successful kill ratio.
And so on and so on. It's just the various creators and writers taking artistic license with the characters, and thankfully it works with the movies. So guessing what will happen with whom in the 3rd installment is almost a complete tossup, except for whats already been hinted at by the movies.
There are some AWESOME stories to be told, with the Pheonix saga being one of the most highly acclaimed, and it would be great if they can pull of putting it into live action. A lot would have to be changed, as there are too many established characters vital to the story in the comics, and I dont see how they can keep the proper storyline without them. But then again, in the comics, Jean Grey didnt simply turn into the Pheonix, but was replaced by an entity known as "the Pheonix force" as she was dying aboard the space shuttle. Damn artistic license again I guess.
Oh, and Halle needs to be axed, and replaced. She shouldnt have got the part in the first place. He acting was atrocious, flat, emotionless, and she is not the commanding, powerful woman Storm is.
Also great is an old Graphic large edition X-men book called "God loves, Man kills". An excellent story, that adds to the depth of Magnus's hate of humans, and has a much greater grounding in realism.

I love Halle to death because she IS a great actress. The writers on X2 don't really develop their characters well. Wolverine, Rouge, Striker, and Xavier are the only ones they did a good job on. What I'm saying is one can be the most talented actor/actress in the world, but if they don't have anything to work with it's pointless.

Oh c'mon. Halle is great and all, I like her too, but she put out a stinker here. She just does not portray Storm properly. Regardless of her lines, where is the regal bearing? Storm carries herself like a queen would. She has an assertiveness that even Wolvie cant help but respect. And in the movie? When she said to Wolvie "At least I've chosen a side", it came out sounding like a little kids petulant Nyaa nyaa lol. This is the woman who ripped out Marrows heart for chrissakes.
I think the point I was making was missed. Sure Mystique is not "supposed" to be able to change into "water", but then again, Storm is supposed to be able to fly, Wolvy is supposed to be short, see what I mean?
Yeah and Rogue is supposed to be a powerful person who can stand up for herself. Not scream her lungs out evertime there's an explosion. And Storm does fly, how do you think she got up the elevator, push the up button? Well cut Hugh Jackman's kneecaps off and his problem is fixed, although I doubt he would like that much....😑 ouch....
Point is, the characters aren't going to be perfect unfortunately. The director and writers and actors will most likely tweak the characters, as much as we might not like it.

I think she said that because she uses the wind to lift herself up, up and away! hehe So technically she isn't flying...she's gliding on the winds of the earth! Yeah where's Rogue's powers!? I want her flying and punching holes in walls...then ending the day one a nice date with Gambit 😄

Her skin appearing to be stone or whatever the statue is is a bit different then turning into water. She cant change her internal organs mate 😉
