I really don't understand why people say stuff like this. It's very similar to people liking Revan, except for in his novel and TOR.

Before these works, these two didn't even have characters, they were blank slates, just like HoT. So how are either of them people's favorite character?

Because they get to view themselves as uberpowerful characters.
