Before these works, these two didn't even have characters, they were blank slates, just like HoT. So how are either of them people's favorite character?

People are obsessed with Revan because they're losers who want to feel important and powerful. Revan is a template that enables an otherwise unremarkable person to feel important.

The only cool Revan I ever encountered was in Veneficus's sadly unfinished fic about the character. Great story.

This guy gets it. This is why everyone loves Sidious and no one cares about anybody else.

Sidious is the most clever, though.

Sidious is actually boring to me. Yea he is a manipulative and powerful bastard but I cant help but think go Herbert the pervert from family guy every time I see him.

And that makes him less awesome why?

Yeh, Its kind of why I loved Darth Acina despite the fact we only see her once or twice.
