Trouble Sleeping.

Every week, I have a night where I have trouble sleeping, and I take a melatonin pill.

Could I become dependent on it?

Yes

What do I do about it?

I don't know, talk to your GP

No not if you take it that one night a week.

I would recommend getting a new bed, one that you just feel like sleeping on when you try it out at the store.

I prefer sleep number or a high quality memory foam bed with a topper.

Also pillows are a big deal. These are expensive, but whats a good night night of sleep worth?

I usually take it one or two nights a week, but some weeks, I take it three nights.

Shut off all games, screens, computers at least 1 hour before bed and read a book or take a hot shower to relax. I would also research ASMR. You can find ASMR videos on yourtube. It has helped me in the past with relaxing. And I really think a new bed and pillows are in order if you can't relax in bed. Also I would not recommend doing anything in bed other then sleeping. Don't watch TV in it or play games or surf the web. Just use it to sleep.

I've started getting off the computer an hour before bed, and exercising during the day, and that seems to help, though it's only been 3 weeks since I started that, and 2 weeks ago, I had trouble sleeping because I was sick. The first two nights I tried that, I slept well, and I slept well all week last week. I also slept well Sunday. But last night, I had to take a pill.

Well Melatonin is not a narcotic so don't beat yourself up about it.

I'm not a doctor, so I won't comment on some of this. You should see a physician if you have worries. But I might suggest a non-habit-forming sleep aid that has helped me:

Do you have a particular video using ASMR that has helped you sleep?

Not any more than others, no. There are specific channels I enjoy (Heather Feather is probably my favorite), but not a single video that works best for me.

Mostly, if I feel like I need to quickly decompress before bed, I'll just pull up a random video from one of the channels I enjoy, and will watch it with headphones on for maybe 15 minutes before heading to bed. I don't necessarily have trouble sleeping, but it helps me get to sleep a lot quicker when my mind is racing for some reason or other, and I'd rather not lie in bed for an hour before I fall asleep.

Do you think exercising and getting off the computer sounds like it's helping?

Yes absolutely.

After how well I slept last week, I really thought I was over my sleeping troubles.

Insomnia is not unusual and not everyone gets great sleep 100% of the time. When I cant sleep, I don't stress it, then I usually fall asleep.

I've taken pills since 2010, I think.

I used to take it once a month. Then, once every two months. Then, once every two weeks. Now, once a week.

You're addicted like an addicted addict.

You might need to see a doctor with this new info. I thought you were just taking melatonin.
