Yeah, I said similar way before, that the Wakandans have a stone and it's at least part of the reason why they advanced humongous leaps and bounds over the rest of Earth's cultures. Just having vibranium doesn't really make sense.
Well, there were some implications before, but I feel like
Spoiler:
the whole spirit communication thing when someone takes the herb is the heaviest hint so far.
Though there are still people sticking with the Heimdall theory, which would actually be quite plausible if it wasn't for the fact that the Asgardians specifically handed over the Aether to the Collector because the Tesseract was already in Asgard, and they didn't want two Stones near each other. Meanwhile, on Earth...
Collector himself didn't seem concerned though. IIRC, he had already acquired the Aether before trying to get the Power Stone in GotG vol 1.
Over $100mill on its second weekend:
Thats bigger than Justice Leagues Opening Weekend Lol
Also better than Wonder Womans Opening Weekend.

nice indeed.
Good movie. 7 out of 10. Not great.
It did feel flat at times.
Also, the SJW stuff was not there like some people were bitching about. A dude raised in Oakland by his father who was serious about the oppression and hardships of Sub-Saharan African people living all over the world. He indoctrinated his son and his son lived and saw that oppression on the daily. Of course he will have strong feelings about wanting to do something about the "plight of his people." Nothing SJW about that. Any different than the Avatar stuff? Oppressed Blue People vs. Oppressed Black People?
Spoiler:
Anyway, Warmonger lost the fight. T'Challa spared him when Warmonger was on his back with a blade in his face. T'Challa lost that fight with too much mercy. What happens in that fight if T'Challa was brutal and decisive and immediately cut Warmonger's throat once he had him beaten and on the ground? Much different movie. The first time seeing his dad got me in the feels since I lost my own father. It was well done.
Some great acting. Some terrible acting. Warmonger's acting was hit or miss. He needed to have more rage and far less "stereotypical hollywood black gangster arrogance" in his introductory throne room speech. It just felt...off and awkward. He does much better with his rage later in the film.
Best line in the film is when he says, "Nah, just bury me in the ocean with my ancestors that jumped from the ships. Because they knew death was better than bondage." Nice.

Great film, one of the MCU's best. Fresh on the mind, if I don't have Black Panther in the top 5, it's flirting right there at the 6 or 7 spot.Pros:
- Killmonger is the new top MCU villain in my book.Spoiler:
Erik actually besting T'Challa fair-and-square in the ritualistic combat to become king was a good move, as opposed to some kind of cheap tactic or secret plan being utilized to usurp the Wakandan throne.
-Spoiler:
I liked that they killed off Klaue. Klaue is BP's archnemesis, and Coogler and his co-screenwriter putting him down quickly in the MCU lore was a good move, IMO. Mandarin being an actor and then Killian was stupid in IM3; I much prefere this way of delivering an unexpected plot twist on the big baddie from the comics.
- Ryan Coogler directedSpoiler:.
another great one-take in the South Korean casino (the same Shanghai casino in Skyfall). His direction in Creedwas stunning, particularly the second-act one-take boxing match, and I was waiting for another one-take. I was not disappointed
- Fantastic visuals, action set pieces, and score. The visual wonderland of Wakanda is right there with Guardians, Dr. Strange and Thor: Ragnarok as the most beautiful and visually-stunning MCU films to date.
-Spoiler:.
I didn't know I wanted T'Challa to team up with Martin Freeman's Everett Ross, but this film convinced me post-haste. Great move making him part of T'Challa's inner circle of operatives, and Freeman proves himself again as a drama/action/adventure actor after Sherlock and being the best part of the Hobbit trilogyCons:
- Chris Stuckmann mentionedSpoiler:. You can tell if you're looking.
some sketchy CGI during the cliff scene where T'Challa duels M'Baku
- I'll mention that it stick closely to the MCU origin formula, but, then again, all the MCU movies follow a successful formula and put a unique spin on it. Why fix what's not broken? An observation that has been stated on here already: didn't see much of the politically-charged preaching/baiting in the movie.
Spoiler:
T'Challa's traditionalism was challenged by the revelations about T'Chaka, N'Jobu, Zuri, and Killmonger, and Killmonger's statements and actions about colonialism and imperialism provoke consideration though Eric ultimately practically becomes what he trained and fought against in belief since his father was killed. T'Challa made the kingdom of Wakanda a player on the world stage at the film's conclusion, and Erik became a victim of his own personal quest for vengeance and radical desire for reparations on a worldwide scale.Overall, I give Black Panther at worst an 8/10, at best a 9/10.
EDIT: Spelling.
Very nice in-depth review. I don't agree with everything you said but I still appreciate people making the effort to do this kind of review.

Its also notable that the film is far more interested in the plight of African Americans than it is actual Africans. Not that this is a bad thing, its almost to be expected from an American perspective, but I would like to see more of a focus on Africa in a sequel.
I did not see that at all. In fact, I think you're ridiculously wrong on this point, here. Are there 2 billion African Americans living in the US? Are there African Americans living all over the world in many different countries being oppressed and kept unarmed to prevent them from rising up against their oppressors? Did you miss the part where he wants to send weapons to Sub-Saharan Africans to all of the Wakanda Sleeper Agents in countries all over the world? He wasn't sending them only to the US: it was all over the world. He wanted a global uprising to improve the plight "of his people."
