If you are a Leftie, Then Left Handers Day is just for you!

Left Handers, also commonly referred to as Southpaws, are the brunt of more than their share of jokes all year long. How do I know? Yup, you guessed it! It ain't easy being a leftie. But those of us who are, would have it no other way. Lefties are proud of it.

The world is built for right handers. Examples are everywhere. For example:

In school, have you ever seen a left handed desk? They don't exist.
Many left handed items cost more.
Novelty coffee mugs are made with the picture or text for a right handed pick-up.
Scissors for for right handers. Only a lefty would understand this.
The computer mouse you are using as you read this is designed for right handers.
Did you Know? Right handed people operate in the left side of the brain. Left handed people use the right side. Therefore, only left handed people are in their right mind.

Left Hander's certainly earned the right to have a day dedicated to them. August 13th is that day. Take a minute to appreciate your left handed friends and loved ones. Don't forget to send them a Left Handed Day Ecard to show your respect.

National Creamsicle Day celebrates a tasty summer cooler.

The heat and humidity of August beckons you to discover, and to enjoy, a summer cooler. A creamsicle is an excellent choice. This is one of several chilly ice cream and frozen snack days to enjoy on a hot, sticky August day. Just make sure to eat your creamsicle quickly before it melts.

Ride the Wind Day

Date When celebrated : August 23rd

Ride the Wind Day is a carefree day to soar above the earth. You can catch a ride with the breeze, or float along slowly like a gentle, late summer cloud.

Summer will soon be over. Catching the drift of this day is easy. Just relax, and let the wind carry you away in whatever direction it is blowing. Leave your troubles and worries behind for a spell, as you waft in the air.

Here are some great ways to enjoy Ride the Wind Day :

Just kick back and enjoy one of the last days of summer

2 minor holidays coming up that may be good, back to school for the kids, maybe the neighborhood will be a bit quieter. And Labor Day weekend which I've always enjoyed for most excellent BBQs.

Had a bad labor day last year. Not as bad as the other guy, though.

National Dog Day

Date When Celebrated : Always August 26th

National Dog Day has two goals: to honor dogs, and to rescue dogs from homelessness and abuse. It's an opportunity for us to recognize and appreciate the value and importance of dogs in our lives.

This day is intended to honor dogs for all that they do for us. In addition to giving love and companionship, dogs help us out in countless ways. They are watchdogs for our safety. They lead the blind. Dogs aid in search and rescue, and they seek out bombs and drugs.

The second goal of National Dog Day is to rescue dogs in need. On occasion, dogs need us to save them from homelesness and abuse. The goal of the National Dog Day foundation is to rescue 10,000 dogs a year. Lend a hand to help a dog in need today, or any day.

Origin of National Dog Day:
National Dog Day was created by the National Dog Day Foundation. Their motto is "Saving 10,000 Dogs - One Day at a Time".

President George W. Bush, a dog owner himself, sent a letter to the foundation in support of National Dog Day.

I'll make sure to give my dogs some extra attention today.

First thought was give them an extra treat, but I want my pups to be healthy not belly-draggers.

I doubt one treat'd do that.

Frankenstein Day

There are three known "days', and as a result, a little confusion. We have Frankenstein Friday, National Frankenstein Day, and Frankenstein Day. Let's clarify these days for you.......

Frankenstein Day is on August 30. This day is in honor of author Mary Wollenstone Shelley who was born on August 30,1797. She wrote the book "Frankenstein" in 1818. This day in in honor of her birth.

Frankenstein Friday is the last Friday in October. Originally, we traced some references back to a website on Frankenberry cereal, which suggests a commercial origin. Recently, the creator came forward and told us about this special day that he created.

National Frankenstein Day Google posts this as October 29th. We have not been able to verify that this as a true National Day. Our latest research suggests this day is really Frankenstein Friday.

Get some of that Frankenstein weed from Dante.

Pretty sure some stoner figured out how to grow some of that, or some approximation.......they're nothing if not creative.

And people call stoners lazy. Ha!

Have a friend that's kind of an anti-stoner, he blazes up and like goes all Speedy Gonzales, it's freaky how much he gets done.

I've seen that happen. Its pretty funny.

I've also seen very calm coke heads and button down drunk guys too. Really, the exceptions that prove the rules i guess!

August 14th - Japan surrenders

August 15th - Surrender announced to the world

September 2 - Ceremony and formal signing of surrender

VJ Day marks the end of WWII, and the cessation of fighting against Japan. It is called "Victory In Japan Day or "Victory Over Japan Day".

The confusion over three dates:

There is some confusion over what date is V-J Day. You can consider any (or all) of three dates as V-J Day. President Harry S. Truman caused some of this confusion........

On August 14, 1945, the Japanese government cabled to the U.S. their surrender. This is the date of most modern observances.

On August 15, 1945, news of the surrender was announced to the world. This sparked spontaneous celebrations over the final ending of World War II.

On September 2, 1945, a formal surrender ceremony was held in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri. At the time, President Truman declared September 2 to be VJ Day.

Regardless of which day you view as VJ Day, World War II was finally over.[/b
