Out of my neighborhood all over town and into out of the park and back. Roughly 14 miles.
I used to run nearly that much a day (not all at once) before i retired but not in the last 2 years, really.
Every blue moon i'll go and do a long run just for the hell of it.
Did a marathon in Hawaii in 2001.
Other than that i stuck to halfs. I was usually in a running club wherever i got stationed, ran to and sometimes from, work every day, plus the running the Army put me through on the daily.
Retiring meant i could cut that insane crap out.
I work out a whole different way now, and am not nearly as tired all the time.

how did u avoid runner's shin? when I do more than 4 miles a day for a week I always get those runner's shin. Which puts me back to 2 miles.

Are you talking about shin splints? Because you're not supposed to get those no matter how long you run. I would advise you consult a specialist on some good running shoes. They're definitely worth the investment if they stop you from getting shin splints.
And by consulting a specialist I mean talk to a guy that works at the sporting goods store. 😐
