Um, wasn't Danny Rand always white though?
Precisely. And yet, now you get reactions like this:
"A prominent Marvel comic-book writer was among those who took to Twitter Thursday to criticize the casting of “Game of Thrones” actor Finn Jones in the titular role of Netflix’s Marvel series “Iron Fist.” While debates about the casting choice raged on, one narrative rose to the top: Many users were angry that Netflix didn’t cast an Asian actor in the role.
“Iron Fist is an orientalist-white-man-yellow-fever narrative,” said Marvel comic book writer Marjorie Liu. “Asian actor would have helped subvert that offensive trope, and reclaim space." Liu, who wrote “Dark Wolverine” and “X-23” titles for Marvel, also retweeted similar sentiments from others disappointed in the casting news."
Danny being white, or at least non-asian is kinda important to the character. He's an outsider coming to K'un L'un[Asian Town]. Then he's the only one of his kind there, having to work twice as hard for half as much until he becomes Iron Fist. Then he has to deal with the world he came from after growing up and mastering his powers in the middle of nowhere.
They've even already established K'un L'un with Madame Gao.
He could be Asian and still be an outsider(eg Japanese in Japan treat many other Asians as outcast, I've been told). It's not like say Black Panther where being black-African is pivotal to the character. An Asian actor could work, not that it would be better.
edit: Should probably take this to the IF thread, though I really see no point

These are the people who write comics. Complete idiots.

Originally posted by The NuulI actually hated Ray Stevenson as Punisher. Way to old, and way to bulky. His face was way off too. I've always preferred a more proportional look with a good head of hair. Thomas Jane was perfect IMO.
my only problem with this is that shane looks too small to be punisher. ray stevenson was perfect. i'll give shane a chance though because i think he'll nail the character regardless of the size difference.
I've seen him drawn like Stevenson too, though I never liked the look. It fits italian mob bosses more than the Punisher.
