So is this supposed to be Smallville Clark?I heard no on this, but is that official? (Stopped following Smallville around season 3, but I'm reading the wiki's. Surprised to learn a Supergirl exists in Smallville.)
Smallville Clark has a different Kara and Martian Manhunter. So no. Was just an Easter egg.
Looks like Kara has her own
Spoiler:
version of Amanda Waller going on. Haley came off as a raging ***** on wheels this ep. From enslaving alien kids, which provided the main plot, right up to her last scene.
While i gave the show more credit than to go the ‘oh she saved me i’ll keep her secret now’ route, Haley’s IMMEDIATE bid to blackmail Kara upon being rescued was just awesome in establishing her lack of redeeming qualities.
She didnt even TRY and be subtle. 😆

I dunno, he hasnt come offas a paragon of virtue.
I.. honestly don't remember if he did anything monsterous. He's a bit of a dick, yes. But he seemed a pragmatist with the "Come on, girl. Just step down and don't make this thing... a thing."
Implies he's hopefully sane enough to realize the pr nightmare of
Spoiler:
a black site organization that shouldn't exist, blackmailing Supergirl to abduct aliens, or whatever. The general public sentiment is very protective of aliens, and the entire superhero community could come down on them, including Superman.
What President wants that kind of heat? Who wants to be the president that sanctions a hero who saved the entire planet multiple times over, being put through that. Because I DO believe he at least respects her for what she's done.... He just thinks she shouldn't be an official asset, if he can't even get her to take his stupid oath. It's his sandbox, his rules, and Kara showed she didn't want to play.
I guess we see things differently.
The guy was more worried about his approval rating than doing the right thing in one ep., and really, he was the catalyst for the current situation.
Superheroes are free agents; he had one working for him in all but name and froze her out. Not the smartest move.
Also: Public sentiment is pretty divided on aliens, though, which has been the point of the series for some time now.
It has been handled REALLY badly, though.

That's what happens when you have writers that are so... I hate to use the word, but... Almost brainwashed, in to having the complete opposite of an open mind, or any real life experience. I thought when the season started that the whole Agent Liberty stuff was going in an interesting direction, but instead it just ended up being the usual extremist crap. They don't get that bigotry is a dial, not a switch. That most of the "anti-alien" people won't give a shit about the not-unattractive white girl in the red skirt as long as she keeps pulling kittens out of trees and stopping runaway buses. Like the kind of bigots that don't mind having a "different" person fix their car, do their taxes or bag their groceries, but would never want their kids to bring one home as a partner.
TLDR: The writers don't get that the President SHOULDN'T be pushing Supergirl, and treating her like all the others. At least, they don't seem to.

Your take would be much more realistic, yeah.
But bear in mind in reality they have a President right now who is all anti-immigration, and kept having a go at the Mayor of London for no other reason except that hes Brown and Muslim.
