Everspace.
Toughest challenge is getting used to the flow of the game. Knowing when to run, when to fight, when to pop an ability or consumable. Most important is how to last long enough to get credits and upgrade your ship for the next run, as ship upgrades are the only persistent feature in this game.
Most of my deaths happen because i overextend myself. Say, try and tackle five enemies and a few missile turret launchers.
Or in the worst case, I turn the neutrals on me, which is certain doom as they actually attack pirates for you. Just aggro them, lead them close, and watch them get shredded.
But if you so much as ding their ships, you're the one who's torn to shreds.
GOG Galaxy has a Link feature where you get a free version of applicable games if you connect an account, such as Steam.
Time for a drm free copy of FTL: Faster Then Light so I can get a fresh start on my win/loss stats, without erasing all the ship unlocks in the Steam version.
If I'm lucky I'll get Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition out of it, never needing to worry about being online again.
