Dying Light looks to me like they essentially took Fallout 3's post apocalypse and mashed it up with Mirror's Edge parkour.

Looks fun, but aside from the visuals you can get a lot of the gameplay elements in other games.

Wouldn't you rather check out Dead Rising?

What other games? Please elaborate?

What games couldn't you get a better experience from, take your pick! You can set up a dart board with every game from the last two gens and have good odds.

Off the top of my head:

If you want a zombie sandbox game, play Dead Island.

Parkour simulator in Mirror's Edge or Assassin's Creed.

General purpose post apocalyptic experience, Fallout 3 or New Vegas.

Break your hand bashing a skull repeatedly until it dies sim: Alien Isolation.

Dying Light just mis mashes elements from better games and calls itself a game.

Playing Burnout 3 Takedown.

Man I miss these games. Seems like its all sims now, arcade racers are dead.

The grinding aspect initially turned me off.

Ended up getting it over with in one session doing tunnel loops while going for the true Megabuster, and then played to win the next session using the Megabuster.

Dead Rising 2 seems more fun out of the gate, but haven't gotten far in it yet.

Nah, my problem with it is the combat is utter trash despite being a combat focused game. In general, non-shooter combat systems in first person typically lack the flair, fluidity, and depth as third person ones. Maybe someone figures something out down the road, but this has held true as far as I've seen.

There's a reason Ninja Gaiden is in third person. Kingdoms of Amalur combat feels engaging and satisfying, while Skyrim was so clunky I handed my borrowed copy right back to the friend who gave it to me. I know it's popular but I can't stand Skyrim tbh.

Plus, I tend to hate open world and sandbox games anyway.

I miss the weapon-based vehicular combat games. Extreme G was ****ing amazing, but I feel like only me and three other people played it. R.I.P.

That subgenre is almost entirely dominated by Mario Kart and its imitators at this point. They're not even all bad, but it would be nice to see the somewhat darker aesthetic of Extreme G brought back.

Stfu no offense.

Never played it, but I did like F-Zero.

And of course Twisted Metal, just about everyone played those back in the day.

Hardly played Twisted Metal, I was more into Vigilante 8.

There was a space racer on the NES I can't quite remember the name of. You fired missiles at the other cars, and had an indefinite supply of them.

Was a fun game.

Switching back and forth between Burnout 3 Takedown on PS2 and Burnout Revenge on the Xbox 360.

Takedown is a lot fuzzier for sure, but its a lot easier to actually see whats coming in widescreen compared to the old CRT days.

I think Revenge wins overall as a better game though. Everything Takedown does, Revenge does SO much better. The crash events especially, Takedown had too much emphesis on score multipliers. Revenge's crash modes are more "pure" in the sense that the only thing you need to worry about is the best point to cause the most damage. (And the 360 version further refines it by removing the pointless golf meter to determine boost strength)

Considering Starfield is 1.5 years away... I decided to replay Fallout 4 because I felt like playing a game like that...

I have to admit.....this is my third time and I think I prefer it over Fallout 3 and Vegas....though I can understand people not enjoying the speaking options and etc...

But I rarely care about that stuff....this is more about exploring ruins and seeing cool things and Fallout 4 does that completely.

Hmm, so there was some buzz in the fighting game as Harada Tekken x Street Fighter was dead. Turns out there was an error in translation. Some nuance in the meaning and intent of "okura-iri" was lost, which meant "shelved" or "in storage" in this instance.

He was saying they got about 30% finished, but it has been put on hold. So there's still hope.

I'd love for it to happen, as I think 3D fighters have mostly done a better job of bringing 2D fighters and other guest characters, than 2D fighters have done(apart from Smash, if we're counting that.)

Soul Calibur VI has 2B from Nier, Geralt from Witcher, and Haohmaru from Samurai Showdown.

Tekken 7 has Akuma, Geese, Noctis from FFXV, and Negan from Walking Dead.

Dead or Alive 6 has Mai and Kula from King of Fighters. Several Virtua Fighter characters too, although VF is much easier to translate to DOA.

They've all worked out really well, with two of those games being Namco properties. And they've even ported Street Fighters characters already, so they've shown they can do it. I'd love to see it come to fruition, especially if they avoid the pitfalls of Street Fighter x Tekken.

That should be fighting game *world*

And Harada *announced*

Don't miss the awesome Sega style arcade racer on Epic Game Store this week.

And Sonic Mania, if you care about that.

Why would I waste time on garbage I could emulate on my watch

Sonic Mania?

Emulate it, yeah. Try playing it though. 😛

Horizon Chase Turbo.

Oh yeah, worth the wait. Totally takes me back to Radd Racer. Minus the weird 3d thing.

Oh, you meant it was literally a mobile game.

Did not know that.

Doesn't make it bad though. Think the games quite fun.

Vigilante 8 was such an underestimated game.

That's one of the things Fallout 4 did better IMO, the exploration. In earlier games you could explore a random building and really not find much at all save for the odd lawnmower blade and maybe some packaged food, but in FO4 you have a reasonable chance to find something very useful like ammo or something that contains rare-ish crafting components like copper. Head into any building in FO4 and as long as you don't die you'll come out of there in a better condition.
