The fact that the light of the DC universe was gone for a whole year made it even sadder.

I actually liked their fight(s) under Straczynski's pen better.
Ripping the eye out was cool, but the rest was just the usual beating-to-death that should happen to Parker every day and twice on sundays.

The Waynes death hands downcreated the greatest character in comics, is still felt by said character to this day and most important it hasnt been retconned or anything dumb like that in 75 years
It's a rather thin plot. The murder just sorta happens. But it was written for kids. I would tend to rank Uncle Ben's death above this solely on the basis that you at least got to see how loving Uncle Ben was... in like, two panels? Bought him a microscope or something.
Also Joe Chill has been retconned so many times I think it detracts more than adds. They just can't figure out what they want to do with him.
Val Armor's is up there.
But nothing beats Tommy Monaghan's. Guy went out like a man, rushing down an army just so he can headshot the guy that was hounding him, and threatening his woman. Got the job done, and then he died.
Although Nat sticking by his friend when he knew he was gonna die comes close.
