No Unopened Cokes for Muslims on United Airlines Flights

Really disgusting, especially the reaction of one of the passengers.

On Friday a Muslim woman was denied an unopened can of Coke aboard a United Airlines flight because the stewardess claimed the woman might use it as a weapon. The response of both the stewardess and passengers seems to point to an unsettling level of Islamaphobia that is brewing in the United States.

Ok, so it’s a flight line regulation. Understandable – that is, if it went for all passengers and not just Muslim women wearing headscarfs.

Seeing the clear discrimination that was taking place, Ahmad called the flight attendant out on it, at which time the stewardess grabbed the man’s beer and opened it for him. She then looked back at Ahmad and said, "it's so you don't use it as a weapon."

In what must have seemed like an out of this world nightmare experience, Ahmad began to look to her fellow passengers for some support. She was met with more discrimination as a man across the aisle from her yelled out, "you Moslem, you need to shut the F** up." When Ahmad looked at who had said it, the man continued, "Yes, you know you would use it as a WEAPON so shut the f**k up."

😕

I'm a little confused. Was Ahmad traveling with a male companion, and the stewardess took the companion's beer?

So according to this CNN article http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/30/us/united-flight-muslim-chaplain/ said according to a spokesman for the airline in question they do not have any regulations on giving customers unopened cans.

If that statement is accurate as it seems to be on CNN then this is pretty clear cut discrimination taking place.

Although they do also mention that they said the flight attendant was trying to be accommodating whatever that means.

Still the one passenger was definitely out of line if he said those things to her.

From what I just read the man with the beer was simply another passenger on the plane around her. And she said she called the flight attendant out for giving that man an unopened can when she was told she could not have one.

When she asked why the man could have one she said the attendant quickly reached down opened it and then said unopened cans could be used as weapons.

Then another man leaned over and told her to shut up and that she would use it as a weapon.

That dude was clearly trying to be sheriff of the plane. I imagine him being fat and rattailed.

I'd hate to see them try and open up a can of Pepsi. Also, a can of redbull + a hot tub = time machine, they can do real damage with that.

I threw half a beer at my buddy's face once when he was passed out. It apparently hurt.

I imagine a full can of coke shaken enough, and thrown with enough force could cause serious damage to the immediate area, including the intregrity of the plane hull.

Look's like TSA didn't catch the can's either.

She totally could have used it as a weapon she could of drank the coke. Eat a mentos next thing you hear is ALLAH AKBAR!!!!! blowup

"In related news, the TSA failed to catch that 95% of all sodas on airlines are actually grenades."

Brewing? It's been brewed, bottled and being imbibed since 9/11.

😆 😆 😆

Emphasis mine.

While this is disgusting, if I heard and saw this man say those words in front of me, I'd laugh. It's just so over the top. Like from an 80s high school movie and he's the star bully.

I remember in high school, the islamophobia started mere minutes after one of the towers fell.

😐

It only took that long before people started blaming the "damn dirty muzzies."

I agree. Maybe world wars are inevitable.

Feels like that would point to a high level of islamophobia preceding 9/11

I'm sure you'd feel the same way if you were a 5'3'', 120 pound, muslim women, surrounded by islamophobes and just publicly humiliated by a person in authority.

He would also probably feel different if he was the authority figure or the Islamophobes doing the humiliating.

Well, yes, but he is talking about what his reaction would allegedly be in her situation, I'm sure in a completely different situation, perhaps while bungee jumping, he'd feel different emotions. I felt like that went without saying.

That was the joke yeah. Both sentiments go without saying.
