Essentially, it is a form of telepathy (Mental Dun Moch) that cuts a Jedi off from the Force.Basically, you're both right, and you mainly added to Ant's point.
It doesn't cut them off from the Force. It's impossible to psyche a Jedi out so much that they completely lose connection to the Force. Merely thinking about strong emotions and random crap isn't remotely potent enough to do that. ANY loser can do that. Even when Bane was in the depths of despair and intentionally limiting himself he could still draw upon the Force. Even gibbering madness doesn't effect someone that much.
All it does is throw them off, weaken them somewhat and mask the intentions of the person using it. And not all Jedi would be effected either. The mental discipline of a Jedi Master could probably ignore it outright. And those who were effected probably wouldn't even be effected that much, it isn't something that'll have much of an effect on a Jedi's ability to operate.
Unless you're gonna argue that Revan solo's by thinking really hard about banging Bastila and severing the Force from the entire PT team. 🙄
