Fun fact: Most people on food stamps are workers, sometimes even full time workers, but at lower wages that's not enough for a family.
Other fun fact: Most people on them would have trouble eating properly or feeding their families without them.
Third fun fact: One way to eliminate this problem would be to raise the minimum wage... which the Republicans heavily oppose.
So, yea, it turns out if you're arguing for a position that people shouldn't be able to feed your families, be it by stamps or by pay, they're much more likely to vote for someone who is in favor of them continuing to eat.
Republicans love to try and paint foodstamps and welfare as a sin or sign someone's not working for it, while meanwhile fighting for policy that makes it harder to get off 'em, and the Democrats want to do stuff that'd actually help enrich poor people enough that they wouldn't need them. That's irony for you!
(And PS- the total fraud rate for welfare/foodstamps is in the low single-digit percentage, the image of the 'welfare queen' just getting checks and not doing anything for them is greatly exaggerate, with the vast majority being workers-who-are-still-poor, people who want to work, and in third place people who can't work, like wounded veterans. So the demonization of people on welfare and foodstamps is pretty absurd too)
