Then he stayed for a while and didn't just leave instantly. Then he had an entire war he had to aid in so him leaving wasn't cowardice but a situational thing.

Dooku is still better than maul.mdooku is better in sabers and in the force. Even if maul is better in sabers which he isn't Dooku is still way better in the force and that's all it takes.
