Ask An Aussie Anything

What was Barnsie expecting to find once he got to Hornsby station?

For both Gens and Esau, and following on from the topic of God, etc.: is Australia a heavily religious nation? America is obviously still quite religious, but England has become pretty secular as of late; among people I know, being a Christian is actually quite a strange trait. Not strange as in bad strange, just different, one you don't encounter that often among younger people.

I'm not religious & if I was to randomly think about all the people I know, I can only think of 3 who go to church on a regular basis...and one of them is only by obligation from his family.
HillSong has a big following but is considered on the level of Scientology-weird.
They make the headlines every now & then but purely on how much they make, how much property they own & it all being tax-free.
Considering our landmass is more concentrated than America...a lot of suburbs are defined by specific cultures...the Muslim community seems to be the worse portrayed by the media right now.

Every now & then we'll have 7th Day Adventist or Jehovah's Witnesses wanting to stop you on the streets to talk. Church run charity organisations are big & well respected but on a whole....not many people I know would turn to or mention God on a regular basis.

What's old & you find all your desires are cold?

Cheers for the informative response! Yeah, sounds quite similar to England at the moment. Luckily though, we don't have any equivalent to Scientology or HillSong. Gonna look up HillSong, I love a good bit of cult research.

I actually never knew HillSong was started by an Australian until recently.
They're youth oriented...mega millions from producing Christian Rock albums...Justin Beiber recently visited, not to perform but as a special guest speaker...$$$$$$ big time!!!!

Who was the first Australian of the Year?

My question is, have you ever snuggled a wombat?

What happened when they clubbed the rebels down?

in the eureka stockade rebellion?

Ha! I've been making references to Chisel songs to see if you were a fan?

"The Bathurst riots ended...when they clubbed the rebels down."

i figured,
the hornsby station was what made me realise with barnsie
getting the first train out a sydney ( if i remember correctly)

Yup...to find his circus animals.
Always been curious what that reference meant. Met him once but was too star struck to remember to ask him.

Men At Work or Midnight Oil?
