Low Herald Tournament Odds

yeah, it avoids controversy--or it's supposed to....rules are sometimes open to interpretation. i'd just as soon have something that i think could be questionable dealt with in advance. doesn't happen often, but i'll always get approval from the host if i have any doubt at all. also saves a back and forth about legality. i hate that. i'd rather argue powers and strategies then spend 2-3 posts trying to defend the legality of an issue.

Idk, I kida like the idea of having your argument approved beforehand. You only get one shot, so you want to make sure you have the best and most legal attack possible.

We all have the same rules though, one person "OKing" a plan that everyone else disagrees with, judges included, seems wrong.

The rules were discussed at length before the drafts, if you plan on a strategy that is borderline "illegal" then you should be prepared for the judges to disagree with you.

I may have to pull out of this guy's.

Sorry to be a pain, but I'm taking the family on a cruise next week and wont have internet access for over a week from Saturday (it's 9.15 am monday in my time zone now).

Given that last time ID allowed 5 days to pick new drafts and then started a few days later I'd literally be away for the entirety of any final should I make it through.

These things always take a bit of time. Talk it over with Id. It's likely something can be worked out. Because, tbh, a dropout is a bigger setback than a week delay.

Beatboks, provided you can make it past this round, time can be accommodate. We can iron out the details.

Sorry for the lateness. Just sent in my vote for Leo v Scoobs.

Honestly that's how I always saw it on other forums. My experience here however (from Curry's amalgam tourney) was that everyone else seemed to get strategies cleared and OKd beforehand. My first three draft choices were flat out denied even though almost every player entered the tourney with choices vastly above them in power. As such in an amalgam of high metas I ended up playing with mid/low metas in my build.

Like I said the reason for getting it cleared was to see just how far the "no limit to what an amalgam can become " went.

I never clear my strats. Only the characters chosen - makes things a bit more interesting for judges that way, I think.

We're all smart here. We all know what is illegal or not, by now.

General questions, I think, are fine (can I do XYZ).

Specific strategies and tactics are just a bit too difficult to ask, I think. What if the judge inadvertently suggests something? Then they may have a vested interest, however small.

I've never tried to get anything "cleared" either, if I follow the rules on character limits and banned powers... and don't make retarded over-reaches, then I figure anything reasonable should be fine.

meh, i don't see an issue with it. like i said, sometimes rules are open to interpretation and i'd as soon focus on the character debate as the legality of a strat. i never pm a judge for anything, but i will pm a host on occasion about a strat, and of course, about the legality of a particular character....

General questions were all I asked. Like can have Arthur and Scot. is the Ale allowed to be unlocked. Id then asked for a bit more of a strategy to understand what i was going for. I only really gave him like two lines, hardly a full run down.

Well technically is doesn't fall under amping. I mean the water hand does nothing to increase the Ale. It simply grants a means of actually using something that Scott otherwise hasn't. The Ale is in him and the only uses of it that he has demonstrated would be disallowed by the reality warping rule (during death of the new gods he used it to resurrect the tomorrow people. To use the ale requires rage or "negative emotions" that Scott usually doesn't do. Arthur however has many instances of being ruled by his emotions and anger, or using them.

So the more "abstract" attributes of the ale would not be allowed under the rules.

There are some of us who reach as high as we possibly can - so I'd rather get an idea cleared beforehand so that I don't get caught with a ruling that overturns my match. IIRC NJ and I lost a match because of that, so I always go in telling the host who I'm drafting and why so that I can get a general okay or no go.

I've pushed plenty of limits as well. I never knowingly break and rules or draft anyone over the caps. But part of the gamesmanship of these, to me, is figuring out where those caps are and how to best take advantage of them. Bc if I don't have a killer combo - and I times, I haven't - I have to just draft some absolute bosses and bank on having the most versatility or power.

There's no right or wrong way to do it, though. Like your earlier assessment of Scoob, obviously his different approach has worked well through the years.
