Re: New Planet Discovered

So there was a new earth like planet discovered called Kepler 452b. NASA has said that we will contact aliens within the next 10 years.Do you think it's wise to contact other life that could possibly wipe us out?

I'm saying that we keep sending out messages and radio transmission, satellites and probes, what happens when something follows it back here.
The "good" news is that the Voyager 2 is traveling so slowly in astronomic terms that it'll be a long time before it leaves the vicinity of our own solar system, so anyone who'd find it would already be close enough to find us anyway.
Also, radio waves don't really maintain their fidelity very far. IIRC they become meaningless gibberish half a lightyear out or something like that.

I'd say 48/52 chance
You said is it wise to contact aliens, it depends on the aliens. For all we know we could discover aliens that are not as advanced as us and pose no threat. Should we still contact them? I don't know, not without study I would think.
If someone is leaps and bounds ahead of us and for some reason this race was oblivious to our existence then I would say..certainly do not contact them.

The worst part is we sent out our chemical makeup and genetics to aliens in the Voyager 2 spaceprobe. If anyone got that, it'd be easy for them to engineer bioweapons to kill us.
They would not need bioweapons if they have the ability to actually travel here then their level of tech is so far above ours that specialized bio weapons would be pointless.

At this point though we're talking screenplays, not science.
Hmm, what if they cloned humans using the DNA blue prints and have been using those humans as spies to slowly dictate humanity via politics and what not. Sounds like the making of a SciFi story!
edit: Or dude, they cloned humans and use humans as slave labor on their own planet and the story involves those humans coming together to break free and overthrow their makers/slavers. Another SciFi winner. Though I feel something similar might have already been done. Maybe 'Quatermass and the Pit'?

I'm pretty sure 12 million people already believe your first sceneroo exists.

I approve.

The way I hear what a lot of people think is that aliens created humans as we know them, originally for slave labor. The cave men were apparently for some reason not good enough, to via gene manipulation they made us. Some have argued this must be true because the jump from neanderthals to homo sapiens happened too quickly to of been normal evolution.
BTW they needed slave labor to mine gold because..it depends on who is telling the story. Some say they needed it to fix their own atmosphere which they ruined with tech. Others say they use gold as some kind of resource for something we haven't yet figured out gold could help accomplish yet.
