Obama Slam's German Auto Maker for Cheating on Emissions

They're also all likely getting massive payouts. I posted a while back when VW's president stepped down, his payout could have been in the 60million range, iirc.

edit: as far as Toyota, they're no saints either. They've had their scandals: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-20/toyota-pays-1-3-billion-for-defect-cover-up-statements/5332894

More bad news

Could potentially have to buy back all there dirty cars.

That's been the likely outcome for some time. If it was just a simple software reflash, this likely wouldn't have happened. VW cheated, because there was no viable alternative in having their diesels meet all the selling points of powerful, economic and clean.

Yep, they were originally going to buy the bluetec from Mercedes, they thought they could do it better, for cheaper. Once they spent billions in r&d and finished the engine, come to find out it's a piece of junk so instead of redoing, they cheated..

It's not really a "piece of junk" though, the engine itself is powerful, gets good gas mileage and is long lived (if properly maintained), it's just not environmentally friendly.

Its an environmental disaster and its puts NO in the air.

Just plain awful, people can't even get rid of these things.

Toyota claims words largest automaker ranking.

Also does anyone remember when VW made all hose anti-Prius ads?

Toyota's laughing?

YouTube video

Yea Toyota is laughing, they just took the title from VW.

The Prius is the greenest most efficient car on the market still, always has been, always will be.

Technically Toyota is just reclaiming its previous place on top, and from what I understand the timeframe of the sales includes sales rates from before the scandal came out, so it's quite likely that even if this hadn't happened Toyota would have retaken top spot.

Can the Germans not tell the truth about anything?

What are they lying about now? Did I miss something?

The story seemed to be about them halting planned growth and such until after Dieselgate is sorted. Which is probably a good strategy.

Harvard research study finds 60 people in the US will die pre mature because of VW.

"Volkswagen's rigging of its diesel cars to cheat on emissions tests could cause around 60 deaths in the US by the end of next year"

The answer is yes, but only because your question is asking if Germans are capable of being dishonest.

Also, stop acting like the VW scandal is reflective of all Germans.

Well their lie is going to cost 60 people their life.

It's shitty and it's a shame the top people at VW won't see jail time over this, but it's not like VW is the first car company to willfully let a product out they knew would be harmful and/or deadly to people. Toyota and GM are two other major examples.

Okay, and there are more than 79 million Germans who had absolutely nothing to do with that.
