The alpha mentality is distinguishing of people who are competitive, opportunistic, don't dwell on regrets and want to lead. The beta mentality on the other hand is distinguishing of lazy and cowardly ****s who want to be taken care of. That's why Nietzsche also called it the herd- and slave mentality. How does that not adequately represent the modern view of the alpha male?
Well, for one the "beta male" as used by idiots nowadays, does not desire to be taken care off, he is considerate of other people and tries to help them, and, in their mind, is therefore being taken advantage of, which to people believing in simplified pack hierarchy shows weakness.
Additionally "alpha male" status is not about leadership, it's about ruthlessly following ones own desires while disregarding or opposing others.

Ironically, taking care of and helping each other is what makes a pack a pack.
A group who does so vs a group who doesn't is no contest at all- the mutually aiding win, those who ruthlessly follow their personal desires fail.
