Is the Affluenza defense valid?
I'm sure most have heard of the "Affluenza" teen. He was 16 years old and got drunk and accidentally killed 4 people. Using the "affluenza" defense his only punishment was 10 years probation. If you don't know what it is, affluenza is essentially when a person doesn't really know right from wrong because of "financial privilege".
Side note he is now serving a 700+ day jail sentence because he was stupid enough to violate his probation and then *flee* to Mexico, surely because he just didn't even know he was doing anything wrong. But that isn't the point here..nor I suppose is the complete and utter failure of our justice system the main point.
The point is does anyone think this is a legitimate defense? I should also point out that "affluenza" isn't recognized as a diagnosis by the American Psychiatric Association.

You're fully capable of knowing that getting piss drunk is stupid, then getting behind the wheel even more stupid. It's not like this hasn't been shoved into our culture for decades.
"What is the likelihood if this was an African-American, inner-city kid that grew up in a violent neighborhood to a single mother who is addicted to crack and he was caught two or three times ... what is the likelihood that the judge would excuse his behavior and let him off because of how he was raised?"[28]
This dipshit kid's stupidity isn't an excuse, he should be locked up and the key thrown away.
