Shoulda been Jon who killed the damn knight king, phuck sake. Instead we get Arya of all people killing him.

Who wrote this episode? M. Night Shyamalan?

Almost everyone this episode

😂

yeah I thought Bran was a big let down not because of Arya to me still bad ass. just thought bran would have done more than warg some ravens... I wonder if there was significance to this other than keep us guessing.

-Non fighter Sam I-Shit-Myself Tarly kills a White Walker and it's "Cool!!!"

-Jon Mouth-Breather Snow kills a White Walker and it's "Bad ass!!!"

-Arya Magical-Super-Assassin Stark Kills a White Walker/King and "What!!1???!!!?"

Despite the lack of deaths due to people who should have died surviving, somehow being repeatedly zombie swarmed and living, it was a cheesy but highly enjoyable episode. The little annoying shit Mormont getting smacked by the giant was hilarious, did kinda irk me she killed it in the end though.

Yeah, they better touch back on that and it having some purpose, otherwise why even bother with that scene

Imagine actually thinking you made a point with shit like this. No one would care if Arya killed a White Walker, but having her resolve the entire White Walker plot-line, a plot-line she was not involved with until like two episodes ago, is downright terrible writing. It would be like Han Solo killing Vader in RotJ, it just make no narrative or thematic sense. For the same reasons, having Jon be the one to defeat Cersei would be absurd as well. That’s not his plot-line; have someone invested in that plot be the one to finish it.

Could have easily have made her more bad ass by clearing a path through the normal white walkers and cutting to the dead dropping as she takes them out one by one in order for Jon to make it to the Night King.

Seems you're not happy that the show didn't follow the standard cookie-cutter plot line you expected and diverged with a surprise.

I was certain Jon was going to do it one-on-one, then surprise! Arya the super-assassin comes out of nowhere like a boss.

They could have.

It didn't have to be Jon. There are plenty of ways they could have have resolved this with a surprise or twist and still make it satisfying. They didn't. But yes, Arya being to one to end it was surprising. The writers wanted to give us something we didn't see coming and we didn't, because it's stupid. But if wanting a satisfying resolution to one of the two major plots of the shows means I want it to be "standard cookie-cutter", then yes I suppose I do.

The irony, of course, is this show has become more "cookie-cutter" then ever before. Almost all of the major characters survived by having insane plot-armor, every character that did die went out heroically in a blaze of glory, and there was massive amounts of fan-service.

I've been saying this for a long time in this thread. That the super ultra predictable game of thrones type ending to all this would be all the main characters dying and some bad guy winning or no one winning.

The unpredictable ending surprisingly, would be for something other than that. Even if it means a somewhat happy ending.

Since the writers saw that everybody was expecting Jon to kill the NIght King, they went the usual game of thrones route, which is to do the opposite of what people want. which is pretty predictable if you know how the writers operate.

The episode was okay. I enjoyed it. Would I have done some things differently? Yes.

Also lulz at Arya's "teleports behind the Night King, nothing personal kid" execution.

Brandon Stark was using his powers to enable Theon Greyjoy to fend off the dead for as long as he could, or so it seems.

Am I the only one who took issue with the lighting in this episode?

John Snow stood no chance against the Night King in a fight.

Ayra Stark was prophesized to defeat 3 notable figures:

1. Brown eyes
2. Green eyes
3. Blue eyes

Few paid attention to this prophesy.

Major pointers are from GRRM actually.

That’s not from GRRM though. It’s from the show only. Hell the entire Night King is, at least so far, from the show only.

According to GRRM, he gave all key plot points to D&D, so it is very likely that GRRM will write Arya killing the Nightking as well (should he ever get back to writing).

Doubtful. The Night King, at least as he is in the show, will likely not exist in the books. Furthermore, in the Beyond the Episode segment it seems very clear that it was D&D who made the decision.

This is still a really lame way to cull Dany and the North's forces to make Cersei a threat.

Also was zombie Viserion blocking the entrance to where Bran was or was Jon really trying to square up against a zombie dragon?

Subverting expectation just for the sake of subverting expectation doesn't really make for an entertaining prospect IMO...especially if the way it was done doesn't make sense with the established plot points leading up to it. In particular only C list characters with completed arcs died even after the Night King started to raise the dead.

Seriously, it was pretty bad. Almost no one of importance dies, the first half was way too dark to see, there was that bull shit game of hide-and-seek that went on way too long, and worst was these villains that have been hyped up since the very beginning get destroyed by Arya literally appearing out of nowhere (how the hell did she get past that ring of undead?) to assassinate the Night King. What the ****!? Just trash.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed the lighting issue.

Yeah...this was hilariously bad. What were they thinking?
