Brexit, should Britain leave the EU?

Both main parties campaigned on their visions for leaving the EU in the general election. It's an odd situation though as around 80% of the MPs in the commons campaigned to remain in the EU in the run up to the referendum and if they do get a commons vote on the results of the negotiations then they might not vote in favour of it which might result in a second referendum going to the public. Given that it was 52:48 last time then who knows.

So what's to stop whoever the PM is when negotiations actually start from "negotiating" with the EU, then coming back and saying "Well we couldn't get a good deal for Britain, so we're not leaving now." Would that be political suicide at this point? Or would the leave people be happy that they at least made an attempt to leave?

I doubt the leave people would be happy. They'd be pissed that the elected politicians diliberately sabatoged something chosen by a democratic vote because they didn't like the outcome of said vote.

In the UK each party writes a manifesto and campaigns in the election based on that manifesto. The two main parties, Conservative (Tory) and Labour both stated they would implement Brexit. To go against it without another referendum would be political suicide, yes.

The leave campaigners such as Nigel Farage would barely accept a soft Brexit especially if it meant that free movement of people stayed.

Does Farage really have much influence? Didn't his UKIP get decimated in the election last week?

The DUP apparently wants him involved in negotiations, as do likely quite a few hard brexiters, and he stepped down from leadership of UKIP long before the election.

Worse than decimated. But he left the party and left it in the hands of complete idiots. As much as I can't stand him, he's a great orator and can rally people behind him especially if he can convince them that Brexit might not happen. He's like a right wing George Galloway and look what he did to the US senate hearing.

The thing is with the Brexit vote; it should have been 60% or not at all. But... Cameron was so confident. People forget when they laugh at Osborne attacking May it was he and Cameron and the majority of pro-EU Tories that got Britain into this fix with their hubris. May is whilst I can't stand her and feel she is using Brexit to lock the U.K. under Tory control just the shit shoveller cleaning up the mess. The majority would not vote Brexit now.

Oh and this morning, just like that, puff... austerity will be gone.

Gorgeous George, a lot to like and equally a lot to dislike, almost as crooked as Trump and no, Farage is not in his class as an orator, Farage just plays to people's prejudices.

Might as well hold a second referendum on whether the UK should leave the EU.

Its the Scottish accent 😛 . Incidentally he's from my hometown. He's not well liked here but aye, he's a hot n cold character. Does some great work but gets involved with some dodgy people.

Surprised no-ones talking about the latest scandal. May just got turbo-****ed by the DUP, completely derailing negotiations.

No clue if a deal is even feasible now.
