is this the newest talking point at r/The_Donald?

he's a private citizen now, while before he was a government employee who served at the pleasure of the president.

But where did he try to halt it? Saying you hope he won't do something is not saying you can't do it nor that it shouldn't be done.

What does being a private citizen have to do with anything? I'm talking about when this supposedly happened. The director of the FBI had a president try to obstruct justice over an investigation into someone he is connected with, that is the story. WHY didn't Comey do anything? Report this to anyone? Instead he sat on it for months and suddenly it only comes out once he is fired?

If the director of the FBI is investigating people close to the president and that president full on tries to obstruct the investigation...why was this information sat on? The explanations given so far "they didn't want to mess up the investigation" do not hold water.

So it's "Comey is the liar!", that didn't take long at all. Cool. Let's see what happens.

Personally, I don't expect much, as the Republicans control the government and they're most forgiving with this POTUS' highly questionable actions. Admits he fired Comey due to the Russian investigation during an interview contrary to previous claims; it's "meh". Gives Russian officials secrets' it's "meh".

So I noticed you didn't really comment on, if this is true and Comey even busts out actual evidence, why he sat on it for months? The explanations given by others about not wanting to mess up the Russia investigation make no sense at all, so if this is all true we need an adequate explanation as to why Comey sat on this.

If there was actual evidence he specifically told Comey to stop I think the Republicans would not be so forgiving. Thing is, he didn't tell Comey to stop anything, even if the memo is 100% legit. He said "I hope you can let go of this". That's not a command or a threat. What would you expect to happen?

How does that not make sense to you? If Comey believed Trump was trying to sweep dirt under the rug by asking him to not look into Flynn, that would be an aspect of the ongoing investigation, which if Comey came out early with it, could have affected further intel gathering. Not saying this happened as I don't know, but pretending it doesn't sound plausible is just more ridiculous Trump defending. It has a plausible rating of 9.2 out of 10.

LoL, dude. Just stop. The alleged talk was: "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go. He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go." Considering Flynn was being investigated, it's obvious Trump was telling Comey to stop investigating.

Lol so help me get this. If it came out early it could have effected further intel gathering. So then...won't releasing it now achieve the same effect?

Sorry, it just sounds like a bullshit excuse.

I think you're the one who needs to stop. This isn't about a message board debate, this is about if in a frickin court of law "i hope you can let this go" is obstruction and an overt command to stop something or a threat. That is what you'd have to show to actually charge Trump.

Because Comey can somehow continue as the head guy overseeing the investigation AFTER he's been fired? No. He can't.

I wouldn't expect you to believe anything less when it comes to Trump looking bad. You've made that abundantly clear.

No, what I said. We will have to see.

Who said he can continue after it? My question is if it could effect the investigation why leak it? Comey can't continue, the investigation does. If he truly thought this information would hinder it....did he just say "meh, investigation doesn't matter because I got fired"?

First of all, who knows if Comey was the source, I thought it was some as of yet named person, since apparently Comey had told others of proper clearance and interest that the POTUS requested the FBI stop the Flynn investigation, who is/was connected to the Trump administration.

As noted, you go ahead with your "Comey is a liar!" narrative, no problem. Let's see what happens.

Who were these others of proper clearance he told? If he was afraid this info would compromise the investigation you'd think he would share it only with a select few. Which would mean it shouldn't be hard to find out who released it.

But yes I agree let us see what happens. I just wish more people in power took this view. It's irrelevant if you and I take it.

Man I can't wait for this Comey Crap to be forgotten so we can get on to the next Leftist Hysteria Phenomenon. Cause this is getting OLD!

This is the sad reality here, there might be an end to the Comey bullshit and Russian bullshit one day, but there will never be an end to the bullshit of them trying anything and everything to get Trump out of the White House.

Which means unless they truly have some smoking gun about Russia people are just going to lose more and more credibility.

it's fun playing coy to spite the coy, but let's not pick up their bad habits. of course comey allowed and likely arranged this. and what's wrong with that? these are personal memoirs, not classified govt docs.

I can't decide if I want Rob to reply logically or if I wanna see him hilariously embrace this "who cares" attitude, given his other posts and seeming to not like when he thinks Republicans/Trumpers take on the same attitude.

Nah, I'm just curious to see if Rob will tow the liberal line or not. You're Stephen Colbert and he's your audience right now and you've just told him Comey got fired. Is he gonna cheer?

and i ask you again: what's wrong with comey deliberately allowing his memoirs to be released? forgive me if this seems strawman-ish but i'm sure few would cry 'conspiracy' if he put it in a book. is that the line of good taste? using a publisher as middle man?

Aren't all leaks true until proven otherwise? Why are we even questioning the leak of Comey's notes right now?

because it didn't come from a wikileaks document dump, of course. thats where the truth is.

Because he sat on the information and suddenly "leaked" it upon being fired.

Hey it's personal memoirs bro, not classified intel. He coulda released it the day after he wrote it down. Why didn't he? Caring about the investigation as an excuse is now out.

If you want to say he has no integrity and just wanted to spite Trump that is cool.

You mean the notes we haven't even seen and whose only existence is based on an anonymous source? If Julian Assange came out and told people "an anonymous person read for me from an email that made Hilary look bad" and I believed it, you'd have a point.

So is it that you think the two situations are the same or are just trolling?
