Films that did not age well

The title is pretty self-explanatory. Which films that you enjoyed back when they were released, or that you at least considered looking good at the time (or might have been great for it's time, in general), have not aged well in your opinion?

An example for me would be Jaws. The story itself is still solid, but that shark looks WAY too fake at this point for me to be able to take it seriously.

Looks more real than the CGI one's in deep blue sea

But those were never good to begin with. 😛

This thread is for things that were good at some point.

i feel like the only movies that don't age well are those with a lot of vfx, and comedies. a good drama always holds up.

Matrix trilogy. Yes, that includes the first one so highly praised. While the series did influence action movies with its style for a long time, the not so graceful aging of the effects and everything definitely shows.

Indeed. I watched the original a few months ago with my wife, who'd never seen it, and all she did was laugh at how 90's everything was.

I disagree. How so?

Hackers.

I disagree about The Matrix, especially the first one.

A lot of the effects in Independence Day haven't aged well despite it being pretty much the first of the modern giant blockbuster disaster movies.

Something I always find amusing is there was only 3 years between Total Recall and Jurassic Park yet one still holds up relatively well and the other is laughably dated.

The first matrix is as close to perfection as movies can get

EVERY 1980'S MOVIE EVER.

Even the good one's. There's either steam everywhere, or plastic looking props, or corny tropes that were innovative back then..

It's true. 😛

Doesn't make them bad, just aged. On the effects side, those stop motion monsters, models, matte paintings, sets, and costumes definately show their age. And I'm saying that as a 1980's guy, but today it all looks very, very dated.

And on the drama side, Goonies, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, Risky Business, all of it, dates itself. It's stereotype heavy popcorn writing with all the subtlety of a brick.

But hey, that's also part of the charm, imo.

This comment right here reminded me of when I saw Beetlejuice again, the other day. Those vfx effects just look ridiculous by today's standards.

Each to their own, I guess.

Yeah, the effects are quite seemeless and were all in support of the story. The agents morphing into people is really the only effect that was improved in the sequels, but other than that it's still perfect.

Both Hulk films
Phantom Menace
Attack of the a Clones
Scream
Digimon the Movie
Superman II (The effects mainly)

The old Superman movies are an obvious, Just have to take into consideration when they were made.

That aged immediately upon release.
