That's a faulty comparison and here's why: The people you're referring to doing the "spreading" did not invent #Pissgate, it was initiated by an independent person (a British citizen) and further put forth by a Republican (McCain), there's also been zero proof put forth to show it's fake (using your own special rules on the Burden of Proof).

While the birther nonsense was shot down by Obama showing his birth certificate and Trump still maintained and spread the lie for close to eight years.

The problem is the comparison is valid when the people spreading the shit lump all the stuff in the same category lol. Trevor Noah wasn't the first I've heard justify it by mentioning Trump spreading birther stuff or stuff about Clinton.
