Not entirely sure except they want to control things I guess.

The editing facility is not provided for people to entirely change the tone and content of their post after others have responded to it, especially in heated discussion.

I've seen people write bad stuff hope no one getting singled out.

Rest assured anyone who abuses the edit facility will have it removed.
