Maul was unstable, half-mad paranoiac. He was broken by Sidious two times, and became much less then he once was.
Kenobi was calm and ready for Maul. He tricked him. That doesn't prove anything, especially not, that Kenobi is ">" or "=" Mace. Ahsoka, Maul's equal or marginally superior, couldn't defeat Vader. If Ben can stomp people of Maul's and Ahsoka's caliber, he should beat Vader comfortably. But he can't.

The fact is, that OM Maul is very unstable character, and that led him to his death.

Kenobi having better emotional control and being able to anticipate maul when they were sizing maul up makes him the better fighter.

And no, there's no reason to think this isn't maul in his prime. Feloni and co partially attribute the shortness of the fight compared to their previous tcw encounters to how good they were as duelists.

Off course the video should make clear that kenobi "stomping" maul wasn't because he was miles better, but kenobi's victory here is perfectly valid and absolutely can be used to argue in favor of his chances vs tano or an improved chance vs folks like dooku/mace

Furthermore kenobi being both more powerful from his rots incarnation and at a minimum more skilled than his tcw incarnation both make it possible that he's surpassed dudes who were above him as of rots. And him being a better fighter(even if marginally so) than a more powerful and more skilled version of maul certainly is a point in his favor.

^ True say.

Sidious letting them win? They could.
I mean, sure; they might be able to do it unamped if Palps cranks it down a few notches.

What do people make of mace grounding Kar vastor' force chokes?

It's almost as bad if Rebels has just been plain bad to the character.

Not really. I've argued for years that Kenobi is simply superior to Maul as a duelist. I thought this was obvious when the time we see a focused Obi-Wan vs. Maul he demolishes him even with Savage as back up. For years people have been like 'no its a one-off' or 'Kenobi had the advantage' when Filoni flat out says it wasn't a draw and that Kenobi is a skilled warrior and focuses more so after Adi's death. Kenobi has always been above Maul from TCWs on. Its nice to have that opinion vindicated.

Anyway Kanan's been said to have had a Force amp. Ergo why he performed better than Ahsoka against Maul.

Sure, but Maul apparently would have benefited from that DS nexus as well.

But yeah I agree Kanan's victory puts a big dent over Kenobi's victory. However had this fight gone better for Maul then the Kanan thing would have been written off by most people as a One-off.

*shrug* This changes nothing for me. I've always thought Kenobi is stronger than Maul. I also think this idea that 'they're both super skilled that's why it was so fast' is kind blatantly contradicted by canon. Consider Anakin vs. Obi-Wan (both extremely talented duelists who know each other better than any other fight we've seen in the mythos) is the longest fight in the entire series by far.

Obi-Wan won because he's stronger than Maul he's always been stronger than Maul since the Clone Wars.
