DC just doesn't learn. A film like this could have kind of worked if they built up to it with some of the other characters. But instead they all just end up being silly.
It felt like a 2-hour demo for superhero special effects.

And Yet on the other hand with Marvel it worked out for GOTG for their first outing

This movie didn’t really do that, or didn’t do it very well at any rate.
We got to see Atom Smasher’s uncle (the Fonz).
Cyclone mentioned being kidnapped by a villain.
Hawkman and Fate alluded to a long friendship.
All those things fell flat for me though.
The closest for me was Fate talking about his long life, and that worked mostly because of Pierce Brosnan’s delivery.

My "gripe" was actually explained in the film upon rewatch. As far as nuking the DCEU, that really sucks because THIS MOVIE ESPECIALLY WITH THE CAVILL SUPERMAN RETURN P.E.R.F.E.C.T.L.Y. sets up the DCEU for more stories including more Ben Affleck Batman (WHO D.E.S.P.E.R.A.T.E.L.Y. NEEDS HIS OWN SOLO FILM WHERE HE FACES OFF AGAINST JARED LETO JOKER AND WE CAN SEE THE FULL EXTENT OF THEIR AWESOMENESS WITHOUT RUSHED WRITING) and Gal Gadot Wonder Woman (which if people didn't like WW84, you don't QUIT, you just find a better supervillain and make a better movie. The Amazonians should be the DCEU's version of Wakanda but instead Wonder Woman 3 is getting CANCELLED????? I think maybe it (GoTG) worked because the writers managed to get in at -least- one scene for each character to humanize them, either visually, via dialogue, or both. Rocket’s scars, Drax’s family, Gamora’s planet, and how hated she was in the prison…This movie didn’t really do that, or didn’t do it very well at any rate.
