Presumably a fair few of them are Dianaish level... otherwise how would she be so good?
Of course, she'd beat them - she's meant to be the best of them. But I'd assume she'd had a few Amazons of a similar calibre to her, to push her.
Otherwise it'll be like a champion boxer who only ever fights random journeymen.

Isn't boxing where the champion gets to pick his opponent? I've heard that a few times, as well as read it's the basis for ROCKY. Based on the real life example of Ali picking a guy as an easy fight and almost getting knocked out or something.

But to become champion first, you need to work your way to the top.I can't just, based on all of my fights with the local five year olds in my neighborhood, suddenly have the skills to be called one of the greatest hth combatants in the world.
Of course you can. You say it on the Internet, therefore it must be true.

Hippolyta certainly is comparable. Beat up Hercules in fair combat, and even stood in as Wonder Woman for a time.

She's Shazam, basically.

No BFR.
No Wonder Woman.
If classic Thor lands on the island and starts laying waste, do the Amazons have enough on hand to put him down?
again, i don't really know how different new themyscira is from the preboot version, but if thor were to ever really go after the island, i don't know that the amazons could stop him. they have access to magic, that's true, but i don't really recall them having any massively offensive weaponry. there are literally thousands of them and sheer numbers could get him i guess. his biggest danger would come from the gods who would almost certainly answer his challenge to the island. they are essentially the landlords of the place. if he attacked them, the gods would almost certainly step in to defend the island and together they would 100% kill thor. some would be a challenge 1 on 1 for him. without interference from the gods (or ww, obviously) he could probably take the island if he wanted it badly enough. but in reality the gods would kill him before he ever had the chance. /shrug

I'd say that preboot the gods interference is a certainly. I mean lets face it they created the Amazons to have worshipers so the would continue to exist. Anything threatening the exisance of the Amazons is a huge threat to their existance also.
