I think a god who doesn't let you be yourself (assuming you aren't a horrible murderer, rapist, pedophile, etc), in terms of who you're attracted to, he isn't worth worshipping.

You are far more influenced by media than you probably realize.

What's wrong with Desire? It's one of the seven driving forces of reality, after all.
