Well, gun shooting is a major sport enjoyed by liberals and conservatives alike. So is hunting. Obviously, more conservatives hunt than liberals...probably. But I could not find data on that.
Being a liberal doesn't mean you're an idiot who is anti-gun and bases policy on stupid and unscientific ideas. In fact, being a liberal means you're in favor of more rights and privileges which includes gun rights. In the US, we have this weird idea that Democrats are liberals who oppose rights.
So here's why Dick's did wrong: they bought into the loud but very small minority of anti-gun idiots. They clearly did not do a cost-to-benefit analysis of dropping gun merch. They should fire the business management director or VP who made that call.

Marvel comics tried the same shit last year with some of their new comic titles lol. Trying for some diversity angle, the comics didn't do well cuz they didn't realize the people crying about it weren't the ones who actually read comics. They didn't care about the comics they just wanted the "representation".
