Streisand effect and disgruntled victims or people accused falsely make this a monetary nightmare for unis. If the victims or falsely accused don't get justice, there will be a fallout.Has happened over and over.
It hasn't seemed to be much of a problem yet.
If it was, they'd have stopped the process long ago.
A friend of mine actually ran into legal issues as uni. He was punched by a roomate, for being brutally honest when asked if he can be a doctor and being told "Dude, you thought the school library was a student parking lot."
So he got hit, police were called in, he refused to press charges. That should have been the end of it, but the University pursued him as the bad guy, insisting he attend consuling. He fought it, claimed harassment or some such, and they brought out the school policy handbook.
Long story short, he ended up making this go away by threatening to put their school policy against the actual law by pressing charges for targeted harassment, and some other things I forget.
Oh, and the guy who hit him, his father was a big doner to the school. Very rich, very privileged compared to my friend who's parents earned a modest living a school teachers.
