whose main training is that they know how to use a firearm?

I would imagine that this particular statement is false.

Minn. Attorney General Keith Ellison Says He Doesn’t Want Police Officers Responding To Rape Calls

"Keith Ellison, former Democrat National Committee vice chairman and current Minnesota attorney general, said he does not want police officers to respond to rape calls. The shocking policy suggestion occurred during a Zoom conversation featuring Ellison and Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) to discuss racism and police reforms. The dialogue was moderated by White House correspondent for “PBS NewsHour” Yamiche Alcindor.

Ellison stated: “If you’re a woman who’s been a victim of a sexual assault, and the assailant ran away, wouldn’t you rather talk to somebody who is trained in helping you deal with what you’re dealing with, as opossed to somebody whose main training is that they know how to use a firearm? Right?”

Intriguing.

That's so stupid, it should be illegal.

I think that makes a lot of sense, tbh. Of course the police is relevant in the investigation, and should at some point be involved, but I think that the first point of contact could certainly be some form of trained social worker or medical expert. They could still be a unit of the police potentially, of course. But I think generally a diversification in the roles of police forces is very sensible.

this truly is a thread that makes me mad

Best saying I've heard around this is, "What are the police gonna do? They can't un-rape you."

Kinda sucks. Unless there is a rape in progress or the rapist is still present, not sure what the police are going to do.

Also, not too sure a woman wants to be surrounded by men after being violently raped. And getting the rape kit administered can also be humiliating especially given the circumstances of just being sexually violated.

Yeah, exactly, this kind of policy just seems to be sensible. It’s a small change with no downsides and a lot of upsides.

It would be interesting to see statistics on how many people actually call the police immediately after a rape incident, I expect the number is quite low.

The majority of rape kit administers are not police officer, but license nurse.

A lot lower in Europe!

I interpreted as two different points. Point a) many women don't want to be surrounded by men after such a traumatic experience perpetrated by a man and point b) rape kits are can be a humiliating experience as well that perhaps a specifically trained, female professional as a first point of contact could make easier.

Point a. From the few trainings I’ve had, we’ve always led to believe that mostly anyone that suffered from such traumatic events, do indeed feels safer I when they see certain group of people around them, helping them.

Point B. I do agree those individuals do indeed feel humiliated, and that’s why the providers usually is a female, if not, they usually have a female presence to help.

Yikes:

Americans Say Blacks More Racist Than Whites, Hispanics, Asians

Americans believe blacks are more racist than whites, Hispanics and Asians in this country.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 75% of American Adults think the term “racism” refers to any discrimination by people of one race against another. Just 15% say it refers only to discrimination by white people against minorities. These findings have changed little in surveys for the past several years. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Eighteen percent (18%) say most white Americans are racist. But 25% believe most black Americans are racist. Fifteen percent (15%) think most Hispanic-Americans are racist, while nearly as many (13%) say the same of most Asian-Americans.

Rasmussen Reports

Yeah BLM is doing wonderful things 🙄

Yes, I know this. I did not intend to imply police officers adminster rape kits. However, my point was some women do not want to be submitted to a rape kit collection because it's just more people doing stuff to your privates. After you've been raped, perhaps you don't want anyone messing around down there especially if you're sore.

And you have to have photos taken if you want criminal charges to be brought up - sound like something you think a recently raped woman wants to do? Some do: they want justice. Some just avoid it altogether because it's just too much especially having to relive the moment through repeated convos and testifying. Based on the anonymous data collected by researchers vs. actual prosecuted rape cases, we are not capturing a lot of rapes and sexual assaults. This is why the false accusations are even worse - they take up a far larger percentage of officially reported cases than is reality).

That felt confusing. So let me use real numbers (made up) to make it make sense:

Actual rapes in a year: 1,000
Officially reported rapes (to the police and/or prosecutors): 400
Fake rape reports: 50

So it looks like 12.5% of rapes are actually false if we go by the official data. But if you include the anonymous victimization data, we get a reality of 1000 rapes. Now those 50 false reports drop their percentage to 5% of all rapes. Less than half, right?

This is why women not wanting to be subjected to the questions, rape kit, etc. changes the stats. Some just don't want to go through all that - I don't blame them.

Yes, everyone knows black people are the most racist people in the US. If people actually talked to more black people (people as in white Democrats, progressives, and other mildly racist types), they'd come to understand how racist just everyday black people are.

Never could understand where "unreported" figures come from on anything.

Hearsay?

No, anonymous research where researchers use sampling methods that protect the identities of the people they are collecting responses from.

It's why we know there is far more crime in the black community and FROM black people than is collected: based on anonymous crime victimization data that clearly shows the formal crime collection is vastly lower than the crime victimization data. This is part of a long series of posts I have made about black distrust of police and how you're considered a rat-bastard race traitor for reporting black on black crime to the police.

This is also why we know far more people (men especially) are sexually assaulted and/or raped than officially reported in crime stats.

What sort of methods.

Surveys? Those have their problems, from how they're designed to how many people just put in what they think everyone else is putting in (I forget the term, but I'm sure you've heard of it)

Personally, I've never put in much thought when filling out survey's at all, I'll screw around and go polar opposite of the extremes based on my mood, or how badly I want to troll them.

Washington Post settled their lawsuit with Nick Sandmann for $250 million over their false reporting of the Covington Catholic kids incident with the Native American lol.

Sandmann also hinted on twitter that Jack Dorsey might be next. 🙂

I could look up one of the many studies on this and see if I can get the full study. They are required to put their methods in the publication.

On a call and paying attention to the mask debate at the moment.

So where does that money go?

Obviously he isn't getting all of it.. Is he even getting any of it?

Those things do happen, where the money gets divided among legal, and the winner doesn't take a dime.
