Patreon has proven you don't need IP just customers (patrons). And your sponsors will directly pay you far more than the ad revenue will pay you just to put their content in your popular show.

In some jurisdictions even when you're awarded a payment for whatever reason you still have to petition the court to actually enforce the payment otherwise they can pay you nothing and get away with it.

It's not a great system.
