Maybe. This year is weird though. There are a lot of potential reasons viewership is down across the board besides the social justice stuff. Lot of athletes are not participating because they don’t want to risk covid. The way the seasons are happening in a bubble may cause people to be less interested than normal. Or just having viewership spread out across so many sports.
It’s also worth considering how ratings are calculated have to do with how long someone watches something. So if there are a bunch of people switching between three different sports games every few minutes those people will be counted less or not at all for the ratings.
There are definitely people who boycott because of that stuff. It’s true. I don’t think the number is very high though.
Another thing to consider is that you can now watch NFL games via amazon prime and other sports on other streaming services. That’s going to lower the traditional ratings for these sports just like other tv shows now get lower ratings because more people stream.

Last week, a Harris Poll aimed to get to the root of the issue. The agency reached out to almost 2,000 people and gave them 10 choices to select from on why they are watching less NBA action.
Respondents were permitted to choose more than one answer.
“The league has become too political” ultimately was the top reason why the people surveyed said they were tuning out, capturing 38 percent of the vote.
After that came “Boring without fans,” which got 28 percent of the vote.
“China” rounded out the top three, pulling in 19 percent of the vote.

Wow. Thanks for the info. I didn’t know there was an actual poll about it. I’m surprised the NBA in particular is being hit because I always thought that they had a more liberal viewership than other sports and that most of their viewers would support the views of the players.

I think it's about audience too. I remember Marvel canceling several titles that were more or less SJW comics. IMO that is because the people complaining about inclusion etc weren't comic book fans. And the actual fans weren't really demanding those things and didn't gravitate to the titles.
