There's plenty of energy. Tons. We have a massive excess of it.
Guess what CA has energy problems? Cronyism and energy monopolies. The org I work for would be more than happy to supply energy to CA but the duopoloy there, PG&E and SCE, is in bed with the local governments and state government.
Go figure: the mayor of LA is part of the reason they think they need to conserve energy.
And the energy my company provides has a lower carbon footprint than wind turbine energy.

The social justice stuff may have a little to do with that. But I doubt it’s very much. All sports viewership is down nationally, with MLB as kind of the exception in that local games are getting a lot of viewership but nationally broadcast games are getting less. More likely it’s because this is the first time that all the sports are going on at the same time. NHL, MLB, NBA, MLS, NASCAR, WNBA and NFL are all playing right now and that’s not normal. So there is a lot more competition than there usually is.
