Pinocchio (Guillermo del Toro)

I grew up with the cartoon as a child. It's been a ridiculously long time since I saw it, but seems like it could be a cool story for del Toro to tackle..

IMDB

It'd be cool if this was Fable's Pinocchio. A man can dream...

I just want Del Toro to make high budget kaiju films for the rest of eternity, I'm not super into his weird fascination with fairy tales.

Pinocchio is a cultural icon. As one of the most reimagined characters in children's literature, his story has been adapted into other media.

Umm ok?

Thats...one to grow on?

OT, i'd likely watch a Pinocchio re-imagining period, just to see it. Del Toro at the helm is cake icing.

This seems like something a robot pretending to be human would say.

Disney’s gonna beat Del Toro by a few months…:

I watched this on my phone so I’m prob. wrong but, Tinkerbell appears to be bald. And black.

Disney is hit/miss with the live action remakes, the good ones for me:

Maleficent
The Jungle Book
Beauty and the Beast
Aladdin
The Lion King

I'm looking forward to:

Pinocchio
The Little Mermaid (Mostly to see the fragile males go reeee because Ariel is being played by a Black woman)
Hercules

^^^I liked Maleficent, Jungle Book, B&B, too. Aladdin was ****ing awesome. The Lion King I kinda just got bored and left the room.

I’m not ree-ing I don’t think, but I got def. SMH going on at what I consider gratuitous race swapping. Tink, Ariel, Batwoman, Batgirl, Cyclone…

I’m an equal opportunity SMH-er!

Billy Porter as Cinderella FGM though…

… at least brings something fun to the equation!

Shit, I didn't realize this is animated.

I was apparently under the false impression that del Toro abandoned the project because I saw a live action Zemeckis version coming out too.

But apparently they're just separate projects coming out the same year...

😂

I don't care for musicals, so that's really the only reason I didn't want to watch Booty and the Beast or Aladdin. I didn't really grow up on those anyway.

Wasn't there a trailer for this for Netflix?

sure was

^^^Way more interested in this one than the Disney.
Hopefully Tom Hanks learned from The Polar Express and the Disney version won’t be all uncanny valley cringe and shit.

What do you consider “grow up on”? I was 23-24 when the OG Aladdin came out and I loved it.

I never saw them as a kid and in fact I don't think I've ever seen them. 🤷‍♂️
